The cover would be better if it was:

Touched
By Jerry Sandusky

instead of

Touched
The Jerry Sandusky Story

For the time being, you still are supposed to be proven guilty by some sort of contrived trial system, before you are jailed.

Judge Who Set Unsecured Bail For Jerry Sandusky Is a Second Mile Volunteer
When Jerry Sandusky was initially arraigned, as previously reported by Sara Ganim, prosecutors requested $500,000.00 bail and that Sandusky be required to wear a leg monitor. District Judge Leslie Dutchcot, however, ordered that Sandusky be freed on $100,000.00 unsecured bail. She ordered that Sandusky be freed and pay nothing unless he failed to show up for a court hearing.

was that years ago or more recently?

it seems totally insane that this guy is on the loose right now.

also: this really makes it seem as though all the higher-ups tried to cover this up for years.

Sandusky retired from his assistant coaching position in 1999, but retained coach "emeritus" status and access to Penn State facilities. Upon his retirement, he chose to take a $148,271 lump-sum pension payment from the State Employees' Retirement System.

The remainder of his pension is paid out on a monthly basis and totals $58,898 annually.

Danzig 11-14-2011 09:58 AM

no, it's recent. he just had these charges filed a week ago.

hard to understand why he is allowed to be free.
unlike the old TV show, I guess 8 isn't enough.

i hope that whole university burns to ashes.

Is it that hard to understand for people these days that you aren't supposed to be convicted of a crime until you are convicted of a crime??

If this is part of a much bigger pedophile ring, as has been rumored, chances are he will be "suicided" before he ever gets to trial.

that's true, he's not been convicted.

but there has been a lot of grumblings about his low, unsecured bail. plenty of people are held until trial.

I hope your house burns to the ground with everyone in it! How does that feel? It should make you mad as hell that anyone would wish such evil on you and those around you who are innocent of any wrongdoing. The INNOCENT folks of PSU be they students, faculty or others will no doubt feel the same way towards your idiotic comment. Mindsets like you expressed probably are responsible for bomb threats called in before the Nebraska game. You are no more offended, no madder, no more sickened by the events than me or others, that's no excuse to wish evil on innocent folks!
By the way, I wish you and yours a long happy life, no matter how stupid I find your last comment. Emotions are high and they should be but if we are to be a truly enlightened and progressive society we must temper emotion with reason and fairness.

This is troubling, what was the judge thinking by not coming forward with the info that she was a volunteer with Second Mile? Surely that looks bad on her part in light of the low bail and lack of monitoring device requested by prosecution....again, not an indication of guilt but sure seems like she was bitten by a stupid bug...why put yourself in the position of having your integrity questioned? Stuff like this just adds to the media feeding frenzy. I think she owes the public an explanation and hopefully she will come forward with same.

Danzig 11-14-2011 02:54 PM

what was she thinking?

probably going by having known sandusky, and figuring he'd never do such a thing.
child predators don't look like predators. they'd never get close to their potential victims if they did. they're friendly, fatherly or grandfatherly, upstanding citizens. it's how they get people to trust them alone with the kids.

it would be helpful if more people would realize that. too many are too trusting, especially regarding those who they should be trying hardest to protect.

I agree....but surely she must have considered how this would look once it came out that she worked with Sandusky. I realize a lot of folks close to the man are in denial, but wow....talk about putting yourself in the line of fire. I worked with a lot of child molesters, both in the prison and in mental health formats and I echo what you say, they don't have red "M" on their forehead, they usually come across as kind folks who would never be the monster that lurks within them....makes protecting our children that much more difficult. I fully understand the desire to not believe someone you know could be such a monster....but while I believe 100% in due process, I also believe in not allowing emotion to overcome rational thought...I find her lack of disclosure troubling and well...stupid. And it feeds the hate frenzy going on and digs a deeper hole for good folks in the PSU community and State College area.
