Sharp effort from Wilburn..

That final time for the Schaefer Mile can't possibly be right? Can it?

Calzone Lord 10-01-2011 09:21 PM

That's obviously the wrong published time in the Schaefer ... they gave Glenwood Canyon the track record.

In fact -- according to all the result charts -- he shaved 4/5ths of a second off of a 13-year-old track record on a track that was dead as a freaking doornail slow ... and they only have him offically getting his last furlong in 10.60 seconds.

And this chart has been up for like five hours now.

What a freaking joke.

Tried to time race but the split screen at the start gives me no view of the 1/8th pole. Timing from wire to wire i get 7 furlongs in roughly 1:25 2/5. I would put my guess the final time would be 1:37 2/5 - 1:38. Would that work out right beyer wise?

Final time? I don't think any of the fractions are right either. It is amazing this sport screws up something as simple as timing races so often.

Calzone Lord 10-02-2011 06:35 PM

It's crazy.

I've looked at PID's timing beams outside -- the photo finish guy was explaining to me that something as simple as a spider crawling across it could trip the beam.

We had a big problem with bees and wasps tripping the timer at Finger Lakes.

I see they cut the Beyer for this race loose and gave it a 99. The figure would indicate a true final time of about 1:37 flat.

Any idea what Wilburn got? I would have thought he'd have gotten a decent fig, but it's not on DRF's leaderboard. Thanks!

I imagine we'll have better technology by say, oh, about 1965 or so. We can only cross our fingers and hope.
