Beyer Article about BTW

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...0ZJ_story.html

I never listen to the talking heads babble but I actually get ready for Talking Horses when I'm playing that day. Its been great

Has to be pretty flattering to have a friend write an article like that also, pretty cool.

His work is tremendous. He comes to the track as prepared as anyone in the industry. When he is guessing he tells you as such, when he isn't there is a good darn reason. Just a matter of time before he is the mainstream predominate voice on all major network races. It's been coming for a while, I predict very soon BTW will be on Versus/NBC etc doing the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup events. Congrats and well earned.

To do so, Serling scrutinizes films of horses’ past races. He studies the performance of trainers in specific circumstances by using the Daily Racing Form’s Formulator software. He researches pedigrees — particularly those of horses running on the grass for the first time. He overlays the basics of handicapping with a healthy skepticism and a reluctance to jump to obvious conclusions.

Race watching/Trips, Formulator stats, grass aptitude and countermeasure wagering: Beyer beautifully distills Andy's approach and work ethic down to one paragraph. It's a blueprint for success in the game which Andy doles out freely. And despite sharing that knowledge with anyone who asks, he occasionally finds himself a target of internet derision, just as Beyer himself and Steve Crist face those same bizarre misconceptions or jealousy-based attacks. Andy has dilligently worked his way to that rarified air as the singular best opinion provider on the most important circuit/signal in the game. What a nice piece by Beyer and honor for Andy...

I hope you are right about this, I always thought it might be Steve to get that gig. I think the networks might be afraid of the Dennis Miller effect with Steve's vocabulary though.

Steve, what is countermeasure wagering?

Rootdog1 08-24-2011 08:04 AM

Very cool, and well earned.

Always appreciate BTW's insight when playing NYRA tracks. Great article as well, and a huge honor to have Beyer himself pen it.

Terrific piece...and well deserved. Hey BTW, return my PM's! :p

BTW

I'm not a big fan of "little andy" personally but as a proffessional I have respect for his work ethic and effort he puts forth.

Antitrust32 08-24-2011 10:10 AM

Serling is the best in the business. He certainly deserved the article.

Steve, in addition to everything you have said above which i totally agree with the shows are very entertaining as well. Both on Talkin Horses, and Trips & Traps, Andy likes to have a a little fun at his own expense, his co-hosts, and even some of the trainers who are his friends. It makes the shows entertaining and fun, with getting too clownish such as dominates the TVG airwaves. Andy's the best, and it was a fitting tribute by Beyer.

Always truly enjoyed listening to Andy, and learned alot about making wagering profitable over time from him during the past years. Great article, Serling deserves the public accolades! He's an educated and sane voice in the cacophony of the handicapping "expert" world.

Calzone Lord 08-24-2011 01:07 PM

One time, I snuck into his apartment and stole his spare roll of toilet paper.

tjfla 08-24-2011 01:17 PM

Don't forget he is on NYRA.com on Thursday at 8 for his chat about this weekend!!

disclamer...i've made a couple of good scores throwin someone he likes in my play

jms62 08-24-2011 03:47 PM

He is great at what he does and his tweets are entertaining. He is truly what the Republican party needs to turn this country around. Hopefully a run at the white house is in the near future.

As long as Freddy Mo gets to run the War on Drugs....

I miss BTW paired up with Illman doing the weekend stakes race previews on DRF.com. I thought the two of them complemented each other and worked good together. I also would definitely like to see BTW get national exposure as he is very entertaining, informative to listen to, and very concise with his opinions.

The Beyer article and accolades are well-deserved.

Congrats to Andy. While no true horse player should rely solely on the opinion of a public handicapper, but what I like is the fact that he often makes a case for a horse that I may have otherwise never looked at. Handicappers in many Capital District newspapers basically tout chalk in 80% of their selections. Nice Job Andy!
