Coil's work

Baffert getting cold feet about Travers after todays work. It will be a shame if he doesn't run.

He and his staff need to get their stories straight. The assistant liked the work, according to DRF, but Baffert wasn't wild about it from 3000 miles away.

I guess Hoosier Park finally ponied up that appearance fee for the Indiana Derby.

It's always something.

Really?

I find that it's usually nothing.

His jockey liked the work as well.

DRF|Saratoga: Coil impresses Garcia in Travers work

Changed his tune on Twitter last night -

@Midnightlute - Feel much better after watching Coil work on DRF video. Gave Saddleranch too much of a head start on a deep track

Is there a bigger attention whore in racing than Baffert? If only Animal Kingdom was healthy, the paddock for the Travers might have the highest concentration of egomaniacs in the history of racing between Baffert, Irwin, and Repole.

I think he is great entertainment, you just cant take him to seriously. Wouldn't you rather have him then a million others? Plus no denying that he is a fn great trainer. As for the shannagans and his willingness to be a appearance fee whore how do you blame him, its such a tough sport to make money in.

That would be a sight.... Honestly, he doesn't bother me.... But between the depth of the main track and the weather, all he seems to do is complain the Spa. Sounds like he's looking for any excuse to get Coil back west.

I don't think he'd need an excuse. He's a Southern Cal based trainer with a Southern Cal based horse and they have a $1 million race coming up that he could run in that would arguably be tougher to win than the Travers, especially if Blind Luck were to run.

Besides, he said that if he didn't run in the Travers, he'd likely run in the Penn Derby. I don't think he's looking for an excuse to come back to Cali rather than looking for the easiest spot like he did with Lookin at Lucky last year.

Why the hostility, Nicholas? You don't know the man. Is Bill Bellichick the same guy on camera as he is off of it?

We need someone to even out all of the Baffert fellating here, don't we?

The guy's a great trainer, you'll never catch me saying anything different but the whining about Coil's work, the inability to pick a spot for a horse without dancing around it and the "look at me" twitter stuff is just tiresome to me. Some may feel differently and that's fine.

He is a great trainer, and is "right" most of the time when it comes to picking races. I was suprised he kept missing on midnight interlude during the TC - even he was fooled on that one. Should be interesting to watch how this develops but I hope he runs, cause I want Shack to get another shot at him.

As tough as Shack is, I don't think he wants a "shot" at Coil or a few others at 1 1/4 miles.

We shall see who finishes in front of the other....I just want all of them in the race.

Well he has said either Coil or Prayer for Relief will go and whoever doesn't will run in the PA Derby. Also said that Coil looks bad over it and Prayer for Relief looks great

I would love just one time to have an owner tell his trainer he wants to run. I am getting sick of trainers having and nominating 3 or 4 horses in a race, then they just run 1.
