Those effing rich bastard teachers, living the life of luxury and having to purchase their own classroom supplies out of their pockets. Overpaid and overappreciated! Teachers have always been what's bad about this country. Greedy SOB's.

no, they didnt cause the problems...altho some might argue that they are a part of a huge problem...be that as it may, i find it interesting that the haves dont want to give a little to help some have nots change their status from unemployed to employed. yep, way to help your union brethren.

and to think a good 30-40% of their students are reading at the level they're supposed to be when being advanced, that's huge!

It is split virtually 50-50 (52-48) so yeah, after already taking a big hit to their salary and pensions, 48% of them are willing to do some more.

Teachers have never been paid enough, nor respected enough in this country. It's very sad. Look at the the ridiculous demonization of teachers the Republican Governors decided upon last year at their convention, to enable them to try and privatize some aspects of government.

Probably why we don't get the high quality of teachers some other countries raise, that would get us into the top 25 in math, science and reading.

When are the lazy and entitled of this country going to wake up and realize that if you want to be in the Top Ten countries in math, science, reading, you have to work at it, you have to emphasize it, and that also costs money?

lazy and entitled wont ever wake up about anyhing...their laziness and sense of entitlement precludes that.
as for the teachers and their thought process....we somehow found money to pay more teachers when class size became the watchword...apparently now that is out the window. teachers bit hook line and sinker when their unions pushed for more teachers~unions benefittted, no one else. had teachers thought a bit, they might have siad no, wait. dont hire more~just pay us more. higher pay, more interest, more applicants, a better gene pool, thus better teachers and a better product.

Yes, certainly some students are. Some teachers. Many parents.

We no longer stress education in this country, in fact alot of our public figures openly denigrate math, science and reading, education itself, and call it unnecessary, or "elitist". Teachers are currently being demonized as evil and money grubbing. When it comes to saving money, it's taken first from teachers.

I can't believe what this country is coming to. It's very sad.

We've dropped to 12th in number of college graduates.

The top five countries start teaching physics and chemistry in middle school. We have The Creation Museum!

As an aside, I don't think the weight assignments on those ponies were very fair. Someone should talk to the racing secretary.

They don't let you run 5K with a knee implant - it loosens it (running on asphalt was one of the reasons I needed a fake knee at a young age). Not a replacement you want to need. I only cheat run a little now when I'm on the indoor cushioned track in winter.

The last race I ever ran in Chicago was the St Patricks day on the lakefront, and it was like 14 degrees - uhg.

So asking someone to contribute an extremely small portion of their income to a pension is unreasonable? If contributing 5.8% of my salary to my own pension improved my working conditions and allowed my company to rehire fellow workers I would see no issue in it.

Personally I believe the survey was rigged by the union to make the teachers look bad. Some teachers even called in to local radio stations prior to the survey and stated this was going to happen. The union comes out of this looking good and the teachers are to blame.
