6/18: Belmont Park ($34k C/O); Churchill Downs (7th-12th)

BELMONT PARK

POST-SCRATCHES

5th: NY-MSW, 3+, 8.5f-T (P6, P3, DD, Super)

$34k P6 C/O starts here..

Feels like at least a half dozen are capable of winning this if it stays on the lawn..

Colonial's odd decision to open Turf Cup to elders made this event a prime beneficiary. Good, good race with well-matched set of 9 and little to seperate them. Trip[ and predilection for yielding turf should determine outcome, and would guess those trying to rally will be compromised by the conditions..

Exotics Use: #8 Chinglish 4-1 8th
Super Add: #6 Street Game 12-1 WON ($18.20)

9th: 43rd Ogden Phipps (G1), F&M-3+, 8.5f (DD, Super)

Wayne unveils #2 Chalybeate Springs, a Dynaformer bay out of the brilliant Chaposa Springs who counted the '95 Test, '96 Princess Rooney and Ballerina among her 14 wins from 23 starts..

Most Likely: #10 Whinston 5-2 4th

May not be star-packed, but certainly chock ful o' stakes horses and a fun betting affair. May have gone in his direction anyway, but with rain at the Downs and a wet track very likely, hard to pass up Fawkes' Duke of Mischief at anything close to the 6-1 ML..

Best Value: #9 Duke of Mischief 6-1 4th

Maybe... Check back after late changes.

Churchill website not showing any scratches in Matt Wynn. Looks like Joe Vann running.

There will likely be more later in the morning. And graded stake entrants can scratch by about 2 hours before their scheduled post, so on a day like this it is worthwhile to check repeatedly through the early afternoon. Marty McGee said Friday on ATR that the Pletcher barn told him they were leaning towards the Iowa Derby.

There is another very heavy round of rain coming. What's the chance this card gets cancelled?

'the Waterwagon Trai'l Is On Point At Churchill Today

Kasept 06-18-2011 02:27 PM

Yikes. Kerry Metivier and Jaime Rodriguez set the tote on tilt with an impossible 78-1 winner in the 5th. $80k P4. $2,400 exacta. $17k on the .10 super, etc..

pointman 06-18-2011 02:34 PM

Steve, are you seeing any bias on the yielding turf course today at Belmont? That win by the 10 cost me a fortune.

golfer 06-18-2011 03:53 PM

Solis' ride on Windafull was one for the ages

I didn't see the early races, but it sure seemed to me that the course helped propel Street Game around that turf course. Could be interesting if it stays that way for tomorrow's double carryover.
