Whatever you thought of the movie...only one thing to say...WOW!!

In case anyone is wondering, that places it third alltime in worldwide box...anybody want to guess the top two?

Without googling, I'm going to guess 1: Titanic and 2: Star Wars

However, if you adjust for inflation, believe it or not, Gone With the Wind is still the top-grossing movie of all time (or so I've been told).

Titanic has to be there.. Remember this is world wide..so I don't know about GWTW (adjusted)..

OK, I looked it up...I'd assume GWTW remains number one adjusted...here are the numbers:

There are no foreign adjusted numbers available, I would think that would be a huge task as every country's rate of inflation would be different...nevertheless, one would assume the total adjusted would be around four billion....wow!!!

Somer...we should have better things to do.. But, I just cheated...and GR is right.. adjusted to 2005 consumer price index....GWTH 2.6B and Titanic 2.2B...heck, Snow White is 2nd with 2.4B...

Who would have thunk that..

GWTW and Titanic-- never underestimate the selling power of a chick flick. I don't have much use for "Titanic" but I have to admit I love GWTW.

GWTW was the best and worst....great acting, wonderful story....and enough racial sterotypes to brand it a racist movie! It has to be watched in the context of the times in which it was made but some scenes are difficult....

True, true, but also the first movie that garnered an acting Oscar for an African-American actor (the terrific Hattie McDaniel). For all its stereotypes, it broke that particular color barrier.

The book is harder to take with stereotyping, but again, I think it was a product of its time. Margaret Mitchell was tossed out of the Junior League as a young woman for wanting to support black charities and after her death it was revealed that she paid the tuition of 40-50 African American med students. Interesting life, that woman had.

Oh, I agree...it has to be viewed in historical context! By the way, I think Chris (SCC) is related to her!
