Sidney's Candy to WinStar, Pletcher

Sidney's Candy sold to WinStar, headed to Pletcher
By Glenye Cain Oakford

The Craig Family Trust has sold Sidney’s Candy, one of the West Coast's top male handicap horses, to a WinStar Farm partnership, and the 4-year-old Candy Ride colt will head for the East Coast and Todd Pletcher’s barn.

WinStar announced the private purchase for an undisclosed price Tuesday afternoon, saying Sidney’s Candy will race in the Versailles, Ky., farm’s colors and will stand there when he retires.

The Jenny Craig homebred has been in training with John Sadler, with whom he has won 6 of 13 starts, including last year’s Santa Anita Derby, in which he defeated eventual 3-year-old champion Lookin at Lucky. He also won the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes, San Felipe Stakes, and La Jolla Handicap, and the Grade 3 Sir Beaufort Stakes. He placed in three other graded races and set a pair of track records at Del Mar, one over 5 1/2 furlongs on dirt in 1:02.71 and one over 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:39.52.

That's good news. Now maybe he'll race.

Lol. At least he ran twice in 3 weeks last month. Pletcher will have many spots to choose from...

Curious about the claiming off Sadler numbers. Have to be single digits. I know this is a different situation but it's Sadler so...

Yay Pletcher

...and only run him about three times between now and the end of the year.

...every 60+ days to avoid the bounce.

So he will be going to stud at the end of this year off a disappointing...fill in the BC race.....Back to sleep.

Jenny Craig can't need money. Why sell?

alysheba4 06-07-2011 05:50 PM

I see a future headline - Sydney's Candy diagnosed with a "Liver Problem"

And Dr. Riot figures it is a coincidence AGAIN

HaloWishingwell 06-08-2011 12:07 PM

He'll probably race even less once he gets some weird reaction to Pletcher's drugs. Even money says he'll get penile cancer.

AeWingnut 06-08-2011 10:18 PM

that's it
I'm done

the stud deal probably for one...maybe estate planning as well? besides, they own his sire and have done well with him. you'd have to think a successful son (if he is one, and winstar can help in that regard) would only help them and candy ride.

like to see him run in new york
big sandy and toga
not sit on sidelines
