School bans bringing lunch from home
In the belief the school knows and cares more for children than their parents do they are taking over feeding them (at least lunch for now). How f'n crazy is this?
Parents need to suck it up and take on the responsibility for raising and feeding their own kids. Let the schools concentrate on teaching. If you can't take on the responsibility then stop having f'n kids!!!! Government should reward responsible parents, not supplement and support irresponsible ones. Take away government incentives for having multiple children and watch how everything from schools to the economy improves dramatically. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/e...,4567867.story |
In my son's lunch today was a Cheeseburger, a pudding cup and some cheese puffs. (It's no wonder he is a bit hyper :p)
He says the schools food is terrible! |
so glad my kids are grown and i don't have to fool with schools and their rules anymore.

I wouldn't mind schools doing this, if they weren't feeding such disgusting, processed crap.

And yeah, Dell - I am completely not against improving school nutrition! I'm in complete support of that communist, socialist agenda of improving health and decreasing the rampant obesity, illness (diabetes - in kids!) and shorter lives our young people are facing. I'm even in favor of - gasp! - forcing kids to participate in gym class! |

I would hope that parents could request an out from this program (hopefully by showing they can provide their child a healthy lunch). If not, then I might have to agree with dellinger and others. From my experience living among the poor, many parents do not and will not provide their kids with healthy food. Cigarettes and cell phones-that's what's important among the poor parents, cigarettes and cell phones:( |

The kids that have parents who want to send them with food from home are allowed to eat it. Ultimately parents and not the teacher/principal will make the call. |
the schools here started giving free lunches to everyone a few years back. they felt that some were feeling stigmatized by having to fill out forms-so they just opened the program to everyone. that i agreed with; there are too many kids who depend on school breakfast and lunch as their only decent meals of the day.
however, i don't agree with banning lunches from home. i'm sure that has more to do with putting $$ in the program, and less to do with nutritional concerns. |

My 6yo girl goes to a private school where they require you to sign up for the meal plan at $800 a year. She weighs 34 lbs, so she couldn't eat $800 worth of food in 3 years. They say it's a safety issue after some kid with a nut allergy swapped lunches for peanut butter some years ago.
