New Studies: frequent churchgoers more likely to become obese

Studies now coming out that churchgoers, especially young ones, are 50% more likely to become obese by middle age (50 or so). I have no idea what to make of this and what the relationship would be but I assume it must have something to do with lifestyles.

You have no idea what to make of it? What parts of the country are people the most frequently going to church? The same part where they are most frequently obese. This ain't brain surgery. WTF

Simplistic answer...are people in these areas more obese because they are going to church or other reasons? If, for example, I live in Mississippi (studies indicate it is the "fattest state"), is it more likely that I will become obese if I attend church regularly? According to these studies, the answer would be "yes". It's not the same as looking at a group of folks who are more obese than normal and also more likely to attend church and lumping that together...you can't necessarily use group data to explain individual results.

Education has more to do with obesity than anything else. Run those numbers.

How can a study like this not have an agenda? It is clearly meant to offend a subset of people.

Just imagine if they did a study to see if people who attend mosques use deodorant?

LOL...quite possibly there is an agenda involved, I just find it interesting that (1) the study was done in the first place and (2) I have no idea what to make of the results.

Welfare recipients who surf the internet all day are more likely to be obese than people working 40+ hours a week.

While may be true (or not), provides no insight into study in question.

Michelle Obama has made America's nutrition her life mission. That is why stimulus dollars are being spent to study things that most people already know as common sense. Her Hubby's eating habits make Bill Clinton look like a health nut.

Again, another political statement that doesn't really address the subject at hand. Are you saying it's common sense that frequent churchgoers are more likely to become obese?

This just in: a new study has shown if you've ever used a weed whacker to gather your sacred herbs, you might be a wiccan redneck.

LOL...don't know as I don't use sacred herbs...but I have used a weed whacker around the house. Is your study relating use of sacred herbs or use of weed whacker to being a Wiccan or a redneck or both?

"Feinstein said the study’s results shouldn’t be a cause for alarm because previous studies have shown that regular churchgoers tend to smoke less, have better mental health and live longer than those who don’t go to church."

So are we to believe obese, church going folks have a longer life expectancy than fit atheists?

For the atheists' sake I hope not! I guess the atheists could fall back on..."live fast, die young and leave a skinny corpse!"
