Flashpoint's Owner Issues Swale Challenge

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...#ixzz1FTFOx2t6

Flashpoint v. The Factor in the Swale? Will Ford's racing revolution even be televised? I can't remember if a network's even covering this race, but I'm guessing not.

If they both ran and the purse got jacked up to the proposed $1 mil, I assume they'd both move up substantially from their 29th and 30th placements on the graded stakes earnings even if one of them finishes 2nd.

That guy is nuts. First he's pointing to the Derby and plans to send his horse to the Derby after only 3 starts and none of which will be farther than 7 furlongs. But upping the purse from 150k to 1 million? For what?

This is what happens when tracks pander to demands of horseman to create races. Everyone thinks they (and their horses) are more important than the game itself and need concessions made.

Mildly interesting, but who really cares about 3yo sprints in April. Check back for the Met Mile.

The best part is when Fort says racing is all about having fun..You think its fun for GP to give them another 850k?

Then he should put him in a Derby prep.

"I could run him in the Florida Derby and he might win, but I don’t want to run him two turns and have him get tired and run the race of his life before the Derby"

If Bolton and Baffert take him up on the $1 mil, is it reasonable to conclude they've said "ah screw it" on the Derby and just decided to take the money and run at a shorter distance? I gathered that Baffert wanted to stretch him at Sunland and see what he's got, so would Sunland Derby then Swale mean he's as good as saying we've for sure not got a Derby horse? It'd be ironic if The Factor's Derby consolation prize is the same race Ford is using to prep for the Derby.

What's the winner's share of the Swale at $150,000? Both Flashpoint and The Factor are at $90,000 GS earnings right now. I doubt it'd give Flashpoint enough if that's his only race pre-KD. Not sure why they can't just go with a different schedule. I kinda want The Factor to do well at Sunland, partly to get a horse race shown repeatedly on The O'Reilly Factor and partly so the shenanigans with the Swale are less likely.

Dahoss 03-02-2011 07:10 PM

What is more likely, Gulfstream raising the purse to a million or Flashpoint finishing 18th or better in the Derby if he somehow makes it in?

hockey2315 03-02-2011 07:11 PM

Ya - how could upping the purse to $1M possibly be worth it for Gulfstream?

Any races between now and the Derby might be too taxing for him. He should train up to the Derby and all the owners with runners with higher graded earnings should step aside.

how much stretching do horses get on that conveyor belt of a track

Exactly. It's Florida Derby day so the place is going to be packed anyway. Plus I don't think people are going to be rushing to the track to see a Flashpoint/The Factor matchup.

RockHardTen1985 03-02-2011 07:18 PM

This horse is not in The Factors world yet. Lets see where he is in another 2 months. This horse is more likely to be D'funnybone then anything special.

Wasn't that why Dutrow didn't start Homeboykris again prior to the Derby, because he was "sitting on the big one." I don't think it's his horses he's drugging, but his owners to believe this stuff.

Well I would make a special trip, but I'm different. :o

RolloTomasi 03-02-2011 07:53 PM

Bob Baffert trains for Peachtree Stable.

I wonder if they'll pull the horses out of his barn if he doesn't get the matchup to happen.

I'm sure Mythical Power would be greatly missed.

Eh, that's what they said they were doing. I guess they wanna see if they're "bi-winning" like Charlie Sheen.
