Miller Lite Cradle Stakes
In the 2nd most important race for 2yr colts today, Passport (By Pulpit) and the Clairborne connections (Frank Brothers) were victorious in the Cradle Stakes going 1 1/16 at River Downs. Also, Izzie's Halo (By Halo's Image) ran a nice race for Amoss and both appear headed in the right direction. I usaully would not mention this race, but both horses looked solid and could make some noise in future stakes.

Bogey, thanks for the heads up! I wish I could have seen the race -what was margin of victory? I love this colt - he's now won on grass and dirt, but that's not a surprise. Pulpit has sired some very good grass horses and Trip is by Lord at War, a turf influence.

i said in my response to betsys thread about this race that i liked passport, and thought izzie was one to watch.
what happened to bold start? seems promising as well. |

Per the chart, I'm afraid this race doesn't look like anything special. It was run in 1:46, with a closing sixteenth in 7 seconds (mile: 1:39). I think Claiborne might want to put Passport back on the turf. |
I thought Passport was most visually impressive today. First of all you have to realize that River Downs is a slow track, and was not playing fast today, was basically right on par. We've only had 1 or 2 sub 140 mile times at all this year, for older horses or anyone, and they went 139. And he did it very smoothly. It was a very fun exciting race to call, i hope Passport goes on to do great things. Also, if you guys get to check out the race AFTER the cradle, it was a 2 lap race on the turf course, and one rider forgot and thought it was only 1, it was pretty comical.

probably the easiest way to see replays is wire to wire on espn2--i have it set to tape, since i'm already up and gone by the time it comes on....
|
I always forget about Wire to Wire........also, our local cable channel replays races on Tuesdays, so I'll have more than one chance to watch the race.
|
just glad i have dvr...much easier than fooling with a vcr!
matter of fact, need to watch last weeks show.... |
Balls, I agree both colts were visually impressive and should make some noise down the road. Just looking at a chart can sometimes mess up your opinion unless you follow the curcuit.
