Betting at home in a quiet environment, on track or OTB with other serious players or cavorting in the general crowd on big days when there is a noise an energy on track?

I live in Austin, TX and we have no home track any longer so I am reduced to playing at home. It lacks a bit of something and I used to do MUCH better when playing on track.

Oh well......

There's a big difference between sitting around watching races and actually being there. You only know it when you're in it.

Live at Saratoga or at home. I have a tendency to feel rushed when I am simulcasting somewhere. The backyard at Saratoga, no matter how crowded and hectic it gets at times, makes me feel calm and helps with my overall lucidity. Maybe it's the trees. Maybe it's the pulled pork manwiches at the BBQ. Either way.

I am too far away from any track and the OTB is where my patience gets tested. They moved the OTB into a chuck -e- cheez type place. I miss hanging out with friends but sitting at home and picking my spots is more productive.

Don't know about your home, but mine is far from being a quiet enviroment. The OTB's I used to frequent were nothing more than comedy shows.

Completely agree. If you are close to a track that has a comfortable environment for simulcasting and/or live racing then nothing beats it.

I can adapt to both. I frequently play from home, and my concentration is best there.

When I go to tournaments, I handicap in advance and just revise for scratches or odds changes in the tournament room. The energy is good there too -- everybody is excited.

Live at the track in the crowd is as fun as it gets, but when I go there I need to do almost all the handicapping in advance and print out a sheet of paper from the computer. My ability to adjust will be limited and I won't have access to the original figures or calculations I performed.

Adaptation is always key and all these experiences have pros and cons. As long as they are running and I can bet, I'll handle any of these environments.

I have a fairly good arrangement here in Great Falls................I have an Xpressbet account for wagering at home in my friendly confines. The local OTB is 2 minutes away in a bar/restaurant. There is a core group of 15-20 people that patronize it fairly steady. It's got a decent selection of 5-7 tracks usually. (Aqu, SA, Tam, GP, Tup, TP, GG (right now).

I did get to spend an afternoon at Tampa last February and then a Sunday at Keeneland last October and I realized how much I missed being at the 'track'. There is nothing like being there live and being able to visit the paddock, etc. For pure wagering the OTB or my ADW is fine but I really do enjoy the entire experience of 'being there'.

I always prefer to be at the track or OTB with fellow degenerates. That said, I gamble better if I'm playing at home... the ability to change wagers as you build them w/out someone in line behind you bit**ing helps a lot.

I would rather wager from home. When at the track I always seem to spend more than I wanted,but at home I'll place my wagers then do some work around the ranch.

beer is much cheaper at home

Be it ever so humble,there's no place like home. 5 inches of snow on the road is keeping me there today.
