Another Brilliant Rail Project

Say it ain't so!

IL Gov. Quinn (DEM) wants to explore the possibility of building a rail way from Union Station (west loop) of Chicago to O'Hare. So in lieu of having passengers walk 2 blocks S. on Canal to the Clinton St. stop of the Blue Line (el service that goes right into O'Hare's basement) this idiot wants to build probably 100 bridges (unless he's going to hold up loop traffic for trains LMAO) and save people the 2 block walk? :zz:

BTW once you arrive at O'Hare it is more than a 2 block walk just to get to the basement of the ticketing terminal, then up a floor to get checked in and another 2 block to 1 mile walk to your gate so the handicapped and elderly aren't even a part of this brain fart.

You can get off the blue at Jefferson Park walk a block and hop on a real train there.

With two huge bags and a briefcase?

High speed rail is where we should be putting tons of dough.

May have a point there. But would you cab it from Union then?

Daley's express el from Block 37 to O'Hare seems a whole lot cheaper and at least logistically a better option.

Plus if it's a Sunday, you have a 2 hr wait at J Park between trains. The important part of this to me isn't the Loop-ORD piece, but being able to get on a train in the city and end up in St Louis 3 hrs later with one train change and no airplanes

"F.uck yeah kids who wants to ride the train to St. Louis today! The f.uckin arch whooo! Then we can head north and buy some crack!"

Bingo. Hopefully Quinn can do this, he got extra money from Wisconsin's Gov. Walker turning it down.

OMG Now you're a St.Louis = CHI commuter? How many flights per day fly that route? Passengers?

I'd wager Bob has gone from O'Hare to downtown to St. Louis NEVER (unless Scav was driving) and for you to think it's a good idea is a PG1985.

Remember Venture stores? Remember what I do? Used to deal with Midway twice a month to get there

Dell..American Airlines on it's own has 9 flights a day..They don't fly empty planes so that over a 1,000 people a day on them alone...Southwest probably has 10-12 flights, United another 8-9, etc...Probably 4-5000 people a day flying to St Louis. Still don't think there's a demand for an Acela like train?

I may be wrong, even stupid as Riot calls it but I can't imagine enough passengers travel that route per day to make it worthwhile.

Airlines don't fly planes anymore without passengers..There's a reason there are over 30 flights a day there...and that isn't even taking into account the number of people driving.

Minneapolis is next by the way:D

it has no chance to be worthwhile, rail projects are always subsidized by taxpayers. this Ohare to downtown project is so ridiculous that it's probably a sure thing to happen in Illinois.

Of course, Florida and Wisconsin (along with their economic development corridors) no longer exist, the newest Governors declined to participate after the old governors applied and had the federal funding awarded.

http://www.fra.dot.gov/rpd/passenger/2243.shtml Also information there on scope of projects, funding, etc.

At what cost? Where is the $$ coming from, China? If it was that great of an idea, the airline companies would be footing the bill. There just aren't enough passengers to justify this. It really isn't the Federal Govts job to make life more convenient in Chi Town. Is it?? If it's paid for by the City without any handouts from the Feds it is a different deal, but don't come crying with your hand out when you are bankrupt from reckless spending binges. My life would be more convenient with a snowblower, but I'm not asking anyone to buy me one.
