hey

first off hope every1 here is doing well! ive missed being on the board and talking/debating with many of whom i consider friends here. well i havent been around much because ive temporarily left the "normal" working world to help my trainer out. some help quit on him and he fired some about 7 weeks ago so i came to the rescue LOL. i literally have worked at the barn everyday now for round the past 6-7 weeks without a single day off thus the reason i havent been around. it is hardwork doing it day in and day out no question about it but i have learned sooooooooooooooooo much! i do everything there from hotwalking, to running stalls, to bathing etc etc etc. again this is temporary, but i think every owner in this game and or any person who loves it should atleast spend a week working on the backside and alotta your views will change and youll even come to appreciate some things and people even more, but most of all being around the animals themselves is most rewarding. not sure how much longer hell be needing my help but once my life returns to its normal schedule and i have more free time ill be back here more often

thanks guys and gals of course for the responses, again ive missed yas and have missed being here and talking horses with every1! it has been very interesting and fun to say the least and again VERY EDUCATIONAL for me! i guess im ready for my trainers license since the barn is on a 3 race win streak!........ LOL j/k im not trainer material, im gonna make my mark in this game as a owner! learning alot about the animals themselves and how to take care of them will also assist me down the road with a job ive been doing for the barn for almost a year now and thats picking horses to claim for a couple of the other owners.

again i believe every owner and or every true fan should spend some time working in a barn on the backstretch ata racetrack, your perspective on the animals, the game and the industry as a whole will definately change!

totally agree that owner can benefit from being in the barn (working, not hanging out) not only do they gain knowledge and understanding of the game and the animals but will come away with even more respect for the people who spend every day working on the backside with little or no recognition.

Good for you!

betcha he knows which animals bite, and which ones always kick their stalls come dinner time.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 09-13-2006 07:58 PM

completely agree! the majority of the backside workers get no credit but as tvg says in their commercials/great tributes to them they literally are "MAKING IT HAPPEN EVERYDAY"!

also for any1 whos interested in DD my horse hes still enjoying life at the farm and future plans as far as racing goes are uncertain

pgardn 09-13-2006 08:04 PM

Oh jeez if you keep going at this pace your going to be taken the blankets out and that will just add to your work. ya might wanna stop, you got the hang of it.

LOL yeah pg i know which ones bite! i got bit today in the washrack by my homie rubi, it was a lovebite tho and as long as he keeps running 2nd and 1st like he has in his last 2 starts respectively he can bite me all he wants! pretty much all of them go crazy when feed time comes which is of course a good sign! one thing that does suck for the horses now tho is being back at hawthorne they are unable to graze. i loved taking them outside at arlington and letting them graze in the grass outside the barns there

Hi John, I'm glad things are going good. I have been doing the same thing, except I only work every other Saturday and Sunday. It's tiring cleaning stalls, tacking horses and feeding... wears me out! LOL :D
