Annual ATR/DT Santa Anita Calendar Giveaway!

Rick Hammerle, Santa Anita Park, 'At the Races' and Derby Trail happy to again give away the Santa Anita calendar!

The calendar's theme is racing movies, so include your favorite and/or your favorite scene/moment/character from a film with a horse racing theme!

:) Thanks Steve and Rick! The calendar is always a highlight.

So with the favorite movie, etc that we're including, there's potential to see an image from that film in the calendar? Not that I need an excuse to watch my horse racing movies again, but I can tell my family it's for a good cause. A few things from Seabiscuit, The Black Stallion, and A Day At the Races come to mind. Decisions, decisions.

The calendar is already printed. But what we're doing will contribute to a compilation of favorite scenes to be used on the video presentation during race days.

Thanks Steve! I went with a scene from "Let it Ride"!

Thanks to Steve & Rick. My choice was Champions. The movie about Bob Champion, beating Cancer and winning the 1981 Grand National.

Oh cool. I did wonder how there could be time to include them this late in the year. I figured it was more than just sharing with Rick in the privacy of the email, but I couldn't think of what else he'd do with the information. This is a fun idea.

Let it Ride was a classic movie for horse players. Looking elsewhere, my favorite horse racing theme show was an episode of The Odd Couple named "Felix the Horse Player". Oscar was winning big on bets and Felix decided to place a wager. Felix wore his lucky sweater from when he was a kid during the running of the first race he wagered $2 on. They were getting tips from a jockey, there was a scene where Felix and Oscar were a OTB. A classic episode during racings so called Golden Age.

My favorite is without a doubt from the Black Stallion. As the grey is entering the track from the paddock, the shot has extras dressed in the proper dress of the day on the grandstand side but on the clubhouse side (40's) which by then only meant which side of the finish line you were on), there are two or three people wearing the clothes of the day (1978?).

I'm the 17 or 18 yo in the stripped shirt and jeans. It's about 5 or 10 seconds of screen time, filmed at Fort Erie.
