Hopeful

I've been waiting a month for this race.

Scat Daddy, Chace City, King of the Roxy and, of course, Circular Quay. Personally I think Quay is the best 2 yo on the east coast.

With Chace City and Scat Daddy in, I think it's likely CQ goes off as second, perhaps even third, choice in this race.

If he's 2-1 and does not draw inside, I will be reaching deep into the sock drawer to bet Circular Quay. If he somehow goes 5/2, I will be unstuffing the mattress.

His work two back wasn't so hot. His last work was awesome. He seems to have an incredible competitive desire. In his last work the jock said go for one second and boy did he get carried away and respond. He appears to be one of the VERY rare horses who you can drive like a car, when you step on the gas he says go.

This is a very promising bunch. But I think Pegasus Wind is a little better than the one above and prob has a little more potential. It is going to be one heck of a race.

They just had to put one of the hopeful probables down. It was McLaughlin's horse Rajjaas. RIP.:(

Hopeful candidate Rajjaas euthanized

Promising two-year-old colt Rajjaas was euthanized on Tuesday after breaking a leg in a workout at Saratoga Race Course.

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and owner-breeder Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's Shadwell Stable were considering the Elusive Quality colt out of Ridaa, by Seattle Slew, for the Hopeful Stakes (G1) on September 4 at Saratoga.

In his only start, Rajjaas won a 5 ½-furlong maiden race by 1 ¼ lengths on August 9 at Saratoga.

"Kiaran was going to work him three-eighths so we could have him ready should we decide to run him [in the Hopeful], but it didn't quite work out," Shadwell Vice President Rick Nichols said. "When you do have a nice one, it's special, and that's what hurts so bad. One, he was a homebred, and two, he had so much potential. To get something good like that and then to lose it, it really hurts."

Sanford Stakes (G2) winner Scat Daddy and Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) winner Circular Quay are expected for the Hopeful, along with Irish Ace, Pegasus Wind, and Unbridled Express. Pegasus Wind breezed five furlongs in 1:00.27 on Wednesday on a sloppy Oklahoma track.—Jeff Lowe

Not a bettable race for me but we all know who the best 2 yo on the east coast is, at least for now.

Yes, it was very generous. The 3-1 Ex was coming back $10.00 - $10.90. Go figure. The Ex pool was where the Unbridled Express $$ were played.

Finally saw the replay, they were flying up front, but I really like the way Scat Daddy was coming home...I don't know if he can deliver that knockout punch going two turns, if he can do that, there's not many that will beat him...This 2yo division should be fun to watch for the next 2 months...

I'll be watching Scat Daddy. Tough trip for a 2yo and fought like heck.
I'm putting myself in Danzig's box when I say that the BC Juve will be one that hasn't run yet.
We'll see. This is definitely getting interesting.
See Joel's thread for the analysis...props to him for it, and CQ too.
Pletcher and Pletcher....come on H Allen! We need you again!

Sumitas,
You could be very right on that one.
Guess how many posters are writing that name down right now?
