Goldikova to stay in training!

:tro:

According to TDN alert.

CSC 11-08-2010 09:19 AM

I hope the other mare stays in training also, who knows, if she is willing why not?

slotdirt 11-08-2010 09:20 AM

Yeah, it seems as though Zenyatta is at least on the fence about retiring, or her connections are in any event.

Arletta 11-08-2010 09:37 AM

On one hand I am happy to hear this, but also wonder "why"? What more does she need to prove?

Why does there have to be something left to prove? Why can't you race a racehorse who's sound and talented? This is great news.

NavalOrange 11-08-2010 09:40 AM

She does not have to prove anything. Why do you think she has to run to prove something? If she is still healthy and competitive at a Group 1 or Grade 1 level then why not keep her in training. The sport does not need breeding stock. The sport needs healthy competitve horses with some longevity.

Arletta 11-08-2010 10:24 AM

I get it.. I just found it odd. Especially in today's racing world.

Thunder Gulch 11-08-2010 10:53 AM

This is fantastic news. Saturday's win was the most explosive move I've ever seen.

tector 11-08-2010 11:11 AM

Call me a wussy, but I just get queasy about decisions like this. I know all the reasons to do it, but after a certain point it just feels like pressing one's luck. This mare is so deservedly beloved by us all, that if something happened to her next year, it would be devastating. Not my $$$, not my horse, but I'd say, you've done enough, baby, time to relax and take the high hard one (yes, I know--foaling is risky too).

Now that I've said this, I've virtually assured her of a lights-out season next year. And I will be very happy to have been so wrong.

IMO She's a racehorse first and a broodmare 2nd. If economically she can make more money racing than a foal will produce (which surely is the case) shouldn't that be the major factor in bringing her back? Not to mention attempting a possible 4rth Breeders Cup? Wonder when that will happen again?

If she's sound let her race.

They should bring him back and campaign him like a champion. Which, to some people on this board, apparently means keeping him in restricted races on the same circuit all year.

Serious question...
With this pedigree, running style, and lowish beyers will there really be a big demand at stud for him? I thought for sure he would be back next year.

Smooth Operator 11-08-2010 12:14 PM

Excellent

Maybe they'll actually run her for the BIG money in classic distance contests (Arc, BCT) next fall … or bring her back over to see if she's top class on different surfaces (Met Mile) like that big Cali mare... :D

He won the Clark, Foster, Whitney and Breeders' Cup Classic and ran second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and Super Derby. There's nothing wrong with his pedigree. Arch gets plenty of useful classic distance runners and throws both dirt and turf runners. His dam and granddam were both six-figure earners and his dam is a half to Archipenko. People who want stayers will most likely love him at stud.

The irony of a Zenyatta fan taking shots at Goldikova's campaigns is so comical my brain can't actually process it enough to laugh.

Smooth Operator 11-08-2010 12:29 PM

She's the GOAT, ateam … why not stick her in the biggest and richest races (Arc, BCT)??? :D

He is why I coined the term Zenyattard.

His stupidity is inspiring.

I agree. Even though I am a big Zenyatta fan she is not even close to Goldikova

Still would like both to come back next year

BTW I also think a huge part of Zenyatta's appeal is the style she runs, coming from way off, like a Hollywood screen play would likely be written.
