My Dog's Ass

It could not smell worse if it tried. My little girl has to get her anal glands emptied every month and by the end of the month it smells like a cannery in one of Steinbeck's novels. It is awful. Incidentally my wife tried to empty them once by watching it on Youtube. Much harder than it looked. So we put her on the outside table and my wife has latex gloves on and is basically fishing around her ass for these sacks to squeeze out. Poor thing(dog) stood like a champ...I love her anyway. Fish ass be damned. And yes you have to get them emptied. If you don't they can get infected or she'll play drag ass around the house.

37.00 to get her ass squeezed....You tell me there is no inflation out there people? I wonder what it costs where Clyde lives in Section 8.

Antitrust32 11-02-2010 02:02 PM

my dog doesnt drag his ass... & he's 3 now and never had his ass drained... BUT every once and awhile lately I've smelled a nasty whiff of air that I know wasnt a fart.

Once I get his sqeezed will I have to do it every month? is it like breaking the seal? or should I wait until he drags ass?

clyde 11-02-2010 02:09 PM

I'm getting sick---here in section 8.

And so...

I'm leaving.

You smelled her ass too?

Needs fiber. Buy a can of Libby's 100% PURE Pumpkin (make sure the label says PURE pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling). Give her a tablespoon in each meal. It doesn't cost much, and it should help the problem.

Good tip! Any thing to be done for her,Randall?

MIne was having the same problem but now she is on Rx food from the vet. It's high in fiber, keeps her from needing her anal glands expressed and she hasn't been gaining weight over the winter due to inactivity.
Just this weekend I had to whip out the scissors and trim her a**hole hair up due to a "clumping" issue. Vet says to keep it up or the problem could come up again.

Any thread that can chase off Clyde is alright by me. :-)

Not really, other than to get it expressed every month or so. It is evolutionary and I think the food will make no difference. Certain dogs have different issues with their anal glands....If they get infected you are looking at expensive surgery.

She is an Austrailian Kelpie. Her name is Belmont.

Almost identical looking to this. I adore her.

Could just give it raw meat.

You know, the stuff dogs evolved eating?

chucklestheclown 11-03-2010 04:52 AM
