Pretty nuts. Tax payer funded and unable to give a point of view that is the least bit politically incorrect. 1984

Antitrust32 10-21-2010 07:59 AM

wow. No way on earth that guys should have been fired.

NPR does suck!

Is there anything more amusing than liberals devouring their own, using their favorite weapon: political correctness?

Riot 10-21-2010 11:53 AM

Except when one uses the free market to get hired on a contract with an employer, and that contract has certain provisions as to one's behaviour as an employee, that you agree to when you are hired, a good capitalist really shouldn't complain when those provisions are enforced ;)

NPR also publically this week said their news employees will not be attending Jon Stewart's "Rally to Restore Sanity" as attendees. They can go as reporters.

Huckabee calls on Congress to cut NPR funding

Quote:

NPR says federal funding comprises less than 2 percent of its budget, with most of its financial support coming from station fees, sponsorships and grants.
There should be NO federal funding.

Being old enough to have witnessed NPR's birth, I'm glad it's there, it's done exactly what it has supposed to do for the past 40-odd years.

Wow.

Today Williams got a 2 million-dollar contract with Fox News. Now he can keep talking about how seeing Muslims on planes scares him, to an audience that wants to hear that type of crap.

Seems Williams has found a more appropriate home.

So speaking the truth is now contractually off limits? I'm interested in knowing how you know what is in Williams contract with NPR. I would also like to know what 'behavior' Williams displayed that was so egregious?

And kudos to NPR for simply covering the "Rally" as liberally biased media members as opposed to liberally biased participants.

It is if you are hired as a news analyst, and you sign a contract that you will not publically engage in opinion.

It's been discussed in various news outlets - in fact one of the links, above has it.

His bosses have been quoted as calling what he said "bigoted".

So when he speaks openly and honestly about his feelings it is "crap"?

That would seem to be a rather narrowminded view. Some of us appreciate his candor.

How do you analyze something without giving an opinion?

What has been quoted is a general rule, not specific to Williams contract.

His bosses are idiots who have already retracted that label

slotdirt 10-21-2010 04:31 PM

Whatever, it's NPR's right to fire the guy, but there doesn't seem to be much cause and the psychiatrist comment by the NPR CEO is way beyond the pale, speaking of people who could probably use to get canned.

Muslims on planes make me nervous also, sometimes.

Not Arabs, but the Muslims dressed full out in Muslim garb and stuff.

it is not a good religion at all

Yes, I find the blanket condemnation of every person in a huge group (billions) based upon the actions of a few to be crap. Hardly "candor".

How do you know Williams didn't want to deliberately violate, and thus terminate, his contract, so he can sign a 2-million dollar deal elsewhere? I'm sure if he feels he was unjustly fired, he'll contest it (after all, there is an employment contract)

And I am quoting the public comments from NPR on Williams contract, not some "general rule".

I'm sure you make them nervous, too.

O.K. How about the Tea Party? Judge any of that by the actions of a few?
