Thanks. I know it is a lot of money but the contest really only costs $2500 to enter. The rest is a live bankroll. On that part, there is no requirement that you lose the whole thing.

Plus, betting that kind of money, you don't have to be right alot to make a good score. Last year, I hit one race in the two days of any signifigance and still made a profit for the event.

They also give players a private room view a great view and buffet. There is no fighting the crowds and no lines to bet. It really is a first class event.

I say this all the time but, most importantly, contests in general are the best in racing as you don't face an onerous take out. This contest has no take out at all and additional money to seed the pot. If you can bet into pools with positive expectations like this all the time, the game would be much more beatable.

I entered the July 4th contest at Red Rocks and the Ultimate Handicaping championships at Emerald in Aug and they were both reasonably priced to enter but 10k is way too much for me. Maybe in 5yrs.

Looks like one needs to finish in the top two or three of the 120 entrants to have any kind of appreciable return on the $2500 it takes to get in the game.

By the time it's down to 5th place...still a darned nice finish out of 120....the prize is $15,000. Sixth through tenth gets $7,000.

Seems to me like $2,500 is a lot to risk when a top 8% finish nets $7,000 and a top 4% finish nets $15,000.

It's pretty much come in first and get the $175,000 to really be worthwhile.

Plus it's impossible to redboard.

But there IS a requirement that you BET 3000 on Friday and 4500 on Saturday.

would be something to be in first and have somebody catch a huge tri in the last race to beat you. No thanks with the inclusion of the exotics it makes it more about swinging for the fences since the minimums are so high. Rather take my $2500 (as I would be unable to come up with the $7500) and play the day away.

You should have it from Dynaforce last year in the Beverly D.

One point that seems be missing is the magnitude of what is being offered. There will be less than 100 people in this contest (I think there were about 75-80 last year). One of these is guananteed to win $175,000. That is a life changing amount of money. There are not many situations where you can leave the track with that kind of money let alone be guaranteed that one of the people in the room with you will.

Add in six qualifying spots to the NHC with a free trip to Vegas and a free roll at another half million for those that have not yet qualified. I would guess that about 25% of those in the contest will have already qualified making the odds even better.

I understand it is a lot of money and this is not for everyone. But I did it last year and had a great time. I didn't hesitate a second to enter again this year either.

On Friday you have to bet a minimum of 600 on at least 5 races. On Saturday 6 races with a minimum of 900.

How do people usually bet this much per race when you are limited to win place show exacta trifecta? Are people making large win bets usually? Or do people chase the trifecta x20 and hope for a good one?

It's the best contest going.
I would give anything if the wife would let me take a swing and enter.

Twin Spires has a contest this Saturday with a $100 entry fee where you can win your way into the Breeders Cup contest as well.

Different people approach it differently. Personally, I did mostly Win/Place and Exacta wagering with a few tri bets mixed in. I know it is a lot of money but one good exacta hit for a decent size bet can pay for your whole trip. This is the Breeder's Cup where $100+ exactas are not rare. You don't need to take crazy swings to make money.
