She was 2nd which, in a field of 20, was pretty good (no I didn't play it... I just think she's a good horse).

On to bigger and better things!

my miss storm cat 08-19-2010 04:49 PM

Not saying she's going to win but come on... Piccadilly Filly is at 80/1?

That's insanity.

Pedigree Ann 08-19-2010 05:15 PM

Anybody watch the Yorkshire Oaks this morning? Gates open, Spencer starts kicking and shoving, Sariska stands there. Spencer keeps on shoving for 10 more seconds before he quits, turns and grimaces toward the gate crewmen (and probably lets loose a few choice Irish oaths). Sariska stands there.

They finally got her to walk out of the gate, after the race was nearly over. It was the strangest thing, because she wasn't acting flighty or antsy before the race; indeed, she looked calm and professional going down to the start. Unfortunately for the punters, she was considered a starter because her gate opened and there was no obstruction to keep her from running. She just chose not to race today.

my miss storm cat 08-19-2010 05:27 PM

Heard about it but thank you for describing it!

"She has a little bit of a quirk and we need to reflect before making plans. She was in a long time and I suppose she has been slow to stride quite often in her races but she has always jumped out. It is obviously very worrying but I can't say yet what we are going to do because we are in a state of shock at the moment.

"She moved beautifully to post but she knows her way round the Knavesmire very well and the stable entrance is bang next to the stalls and she is cute, she is bright and whether that is the reason I don't know. But as Jamie said, no-one has died and the filly is fine."

Michael Bell

As an aside, final fields for tomorrow.

Good luck to Hali who I'm surprised to see is the longest shot on the board in the Stresnsall.

Jarvis has a very nice runner in Rainbow Peak and Rio is wonderful (King's Gambit... I like him but his odds seems pretty damned low) but i will choose to hope for a miracle and that the well mannered gentleman who is stable mate to Mr. Let me Bite Your Hand Now (Youmzain! :D) gets that long-awaited win.

Still pondering the big race... anyone have a pick?

Will the Starspangled one do it? (I always feel a little bad for his former trainer...)

_ed_ 08-19-2010 10:19 PM

I've never seen a horse just stand there like that before. I've seen some stay in the gates for two or three seconds, but never that. Wonder what was going through her head.

But what a great win by Midday!

I'm going to go with my old favourite Borderlescott in the Nunthorpe. Just because.

my miss storm cat 08-19-2010 10:29 PM

I'd be happy to see him win it, ed, and I think the odds on him are a little nuts.

He should be closer to Starspangledbanner and Equino cause chances are it's one of the three.

Good luck to Ms. P Filly, who like I said won't win, and to Mister Hughie... a Channon runner (hooray!) who was a beautiful 4th last out and a few before that one had fallen poor guy.

It's an ambitious spot for him but I hope he can be 3rd or 4th.

Betting Forecast: 2/1 Starspangledbanner (AUS), 11/4 Equiano (FR), 6/1 Kingsgate Native (IRE), 7/1 Fleeting Spirit (IRE), 10/1 Borderlescott, 10/1 Stone Of Folca, 16/1 Rose Blossom, 25/1 Dinkum Diamond (IRE), 33/1 Prime Defender, 33/1 Spin Cycle (IRE), 33/1 Mister Hughie (IRE), 50/1 Piccadilly Filly (IRE), 66/1 Sole PowerVerdict
Kingsgate Native won this in 2007 and beat EQUIANO on his return this year, but Barry Hills' charge has since re-found his best form and should finish ahead of the Stoute runner, as he has the last twice. The dual-King's Stand winner suffered defeat at the hands of fellow Royal Ascot scorer Starspangledbanner in the July Cup at Newmarket but he ran a fine race to rally when headed and, while he acts well over six, five furlongs is surely his optimum trip. Aidan O'Brien's runner is of course respected as a double-Group One winner who has speed in abundance but he's been beaten on his last two starts over the trip and may once again find top-level success over the minimum distance eluding him. He has the beating of Fleeting Spirit on both recent wins, so those searching for value could, with Kinggate Native's juvenile-winning performance in mind, turn to the two-year-olds. Stone Of Folca isn't far from the top of the juvenile tree and travels well so this big field could suit while Dinkum Diamond is highly regarded and the form of his Royal Ascot effort has been franked; in receipt of weight, the pair need considering. Others to mention include Goodwood hero Borderlescott and the visored Rose Blossom, both of whom have each-way claims.
