Protecting Racehorses for Second Careers

This is a good article which posted up on BloodHorse.com yesterday.

Steve, I bet CANTER and other similar organizations would love to have your endorsement if they don't already, and any mention of these groups when you're interviewing horsemen would really be appreciated.

Horse retirement and aftercare should be a natural bi-product of everything in horse racing. It's sad people have to make a push for it.

At Louisiana Downs, we have nothing setup (right now) to assist with horse retirement. I am currently working to get something set, but who knows if it'll get the a-okay stamp.

That said, in the larger picture of everything horse racing, horse retirement won't save the game. Like I said, it should be something automatic and hopefully it can get to that point.

A reminder, for anyone who'd like to make a donation. For anyone who has ever thought "I really should do that someday" - maybe today could be the day. :)

A couple of minutes, a few dollars... it will help. We owe them that.
