THE OTHER cAT

He sure looked ready to tackle the best today. Great time of course the compition was suspect.

I'm not the greatest judge of horse movemnt and all that.. but that sure looked impressive.. especially considering "he wasn't fully cranked"

1:21 and 2/5 secs for 7f and literally Gomez looked around for the others in the stretch. A public workout.

Wow. Sounds impressive.

Quite an understatement. It looked like he was jogging and could run in the Travers.;)

Rupert Pupkin 08-25-2006 01:28 PM

He was totally awesome. He couldn't have been any more impressive. He was never asked at any point in the race.

I think they were very smart to bring him back in this spot. It was an easy race for him and a race that he will be able to build off of. I think it is always better to give a horse an easy race for their first race back. You don't want them to do more than they're ready to do. When you ask them to do more than they're ready to do, that's when they get hurt.

King Glorious 08-25-2006 01:28 PM

If it's true what the trainer said about him being a couple of works short of ready for his best, this is scary. This is the best horse currently running in America. It wasn't who he beat, which wasn't much, but it was how he did it. I've seen riders ask for more in workouts. He was standing up, looking under his legs and over his shoulders to see what was back there. Under a long reign, he was still drawing off and running fast. That was ridiculous. Looks like the track might be a little on the quick side but still, 1:21.53 is fast. Final 8th was in 12.15. These numbers don't mean much if u didn't see how easy it was. Baedecker (sp) is on TVG now mentioning the names Secretariat and Seattle Slew. This is crazy.

Can anyone say URINATION?...cause that is what he did to that group...wow...what a cast of horses the Shieks have now...Oh, what a cast....unreal how strong they are this year...finallly came around after spending all that cash....

works for the yankees every once in awhile too....

The most impressive part ...

... was the final furlong in :12.1 ... effortlessly.

If he can carry that speed around two turns against quality opposition ... and his bloodlines say he should ... there's no limit to his potential.

He already has...against Invasor, unless you don't think he is quality opposition.

Look at the rest of his pedigree ...

... Pleasant Colony, Damascus, Dr. Fager, Buckpasser, Private Account, In Reality, Tom Rolfe ...

... some of them could run pretty well around two turns.

P.S. Not to mention Northern Dancer ... Sword Dancer ... and Secretariat.

Yes, he won easily at 1 1/8 miles in the UAE Derby. We know he can get 9 furlongs. The only question is whether he can get 10 furlongs.

King Glorious 08-25-2006 01:51 PM

Good time to remember this quote from Invasor's trainer after the Suburban:

"He was most impressive," McLaughlin said of Invasor's performance on Saturday. "I was impressed last time and surprised, but today I was even more impressed. He's the real deal. I don't know how I got him beat, but maybe I should say we don't want to see Discreet Cat anywhere."

Bold Brooklynite 08-25-2006 01:54 PM

Discreet Cat's eight great-great grandfathers ...

... Northern Dancer ... Secretariat ... His Majesty ... Dr. Fager ... Sword Dancer ... Buckpasser ... In Reality ... Tom Rolfe.

Says "two-turns" to me.

King ... after this year ...

... you may have to revise your Top Five ... or cut it off as of 2005.
