8th at Monmouth 5/22 -- WTF?
 

OK, so I had Adduce as the winning horse, but what's up with the Trifecta?

I know the pools are separate and independent, but doesn't it seem a little strange that a $30 winner only has a Trifecta payoff that is $233 for $1?

If the favorite won, of course the tri would be low, but I am surprised that a 14-1 shot winning had this kind of supressed payoff.

The 3-2 favorite was 2nd and the 4-1 third choice was third... What should it have paid? The short priced favorite is sure to depress the exotics. You needed that horse out of the money to get the payoff you deserved for having Adduce.

I watched that race from the Belmont racing office and Barclay Tagg got a real kick out the Cartwright girl winning as she used to get on horses for him in the mornings. Said she used to lobby him for mounts in the afternoon.

Yeah, I guess I underestimated the inclusion of the favorite in all the trifecta combinations, not just on the combos that had shorter priced horses winning.

Or maybe I thought just less people would have the 12-X-Y combinations, period.

Thanks Steve. Great playing Monmouth this weekend. I'm hooked. I want to see if I can get up there to go in person one Friday during the summer. Taking the day off work to go play horses -- I can't think of a better idea. :D
