This is something you rarely see in a chart comment

"DUBLIN bore out at the break then steadied to avoid the outrider." Emphasis mine.

Indian Charlie (the newsletter) joked for both the Derby and Preakness they were going to either put a fence up or pad the outter rail. No fear, he'll be in the Belmont and people will still be betting him!

It would be interesting to see Dublin go to another trainer, you have to admit he has some talent, if you watch the race and focus on him he was making a hell of a closing run, he quite possibly ran one of the best races today. I think I'd geld him.

Ya if the race was 1 1/2 Dublin would have hit the board

Great Run after terrible start

It's best for the horse. That's the only reason it's ever done.

Out of curiosity, is he a ridgling or something?

The fact that the horse ended up fifth not by a ton after that start would lead me to consider betting him next out. Seriously, has DWL never heard of gate schooling?

Think being lopsided makes him run crooked?

LARHAGE 05-16-2010 02:50 AM

It actually does, there's something bothering that horse. The week before the Derby HRTV's works show caught him bearing out like that all through a work, Lukas said he shied from joggers he saw outside the gate, clearly that's not the problem, he actually looked like he was aiming for the outriders pony. I think he may be studdish as well.

MISTERGEE 05-16-2010 01:42 PM

was the gate opened before he was settled?

randallscott35 05-16-2010 03:14 PM

Should be right where Dwayne wants him for the Belmont.

I'd bet him in the Belmont. I thought it was fairly remarkable that he made the run he did.

He broke outward, big deal? Many horses do that (or inward), except they usually bump in the horse next to them and straighten out. His problem was that the closest thing to him was the outrider.
