Kent Desourmaux interview

What a horrible interview Bob Costas gave to Kent on NBC. He presented accusations one after the other and got Desourmaux tottally off guard. Its neither the time nor the place to question someone like that especially when a jock is in a positive mind set right before a big race. NBC - FAIL!

Actually I disagree. Kent seemed to be quite confident in his assertions. He's probably thought it over in his head and answered it many times. Whatever happened, there's obviously something he believes firmly and he simply said it to Bob. It's the elephant in the room, and how do you know Bob didn't say he'd ask him about that before the camera rolled? And since when did good journalism mean you only offered up softballs? Bob isn't Christiane Amanpour but give him a break. He's just doing his job. The only time Bob's gonna speak to these guys is on these days anyway, and they've been harassing Pletcher about his record for awhile now which I'm sure didn't make him feel great while doing his job. They gave Talamo all sorts of coverage about his first Derby and that had to make him anxious. If Kent's experience hasn't put him in a position not to crack under a spotlight, I don't know what a person would have to go through in this sport.

Yeah he should have asked him about what the weather or the price of tea in China. He is a journalist not a schill

In an effort to find a fun picture of Bob for a hair joke, I found this if anyone's a fan: http://www.pointsincase.com/files/u320/BobCostas2.jpg

1) They were stupid accusations which did not deserve to be asked in the first place. 2) Kent did not seem to be comfortable when answeringvthose questions. I would have rather have costas ask him about his strategy going into the race but he opted to go the other route. If you have any experience playing in sports then you would definitley would not want to be bombarded with such questions when your mind is being focused for the big event. It wasnt the time nor the place to ask such questions period!

If I had Paddy in 2nd on my wagers I wouldn't be calling it a stupid accusation.

Intelligence does not increase or decrease for you if the horse doesn't finish 2nd. You are as smart before as you are after. All you can do is hope you make money or learn a lesson for later. Being bitter about what goes down doesn't make how Kent rode any better or worse. If he wrote horribly and you didn't have a cent on the race, do you think his ride's any better? Someone having Super Saver-Ice Box-Paddy O'Prado might think Kent rode just fine, or at the very least not care.

Costas is an *******.

I loved the Leslie Vonn interview.

Of course, but that's neither here nor there with how appropriate it was to ask Kent about Big Brown.

How was it appropriate? This question was raised 2 years ago and it was answered 2 years ago. Was he expecting Desormaux to say: Yes Mr. Costas, I had money on the race and I purposely pulled up Big Brown to ensure that I cash in on the eventual winner. He made Desormaux look like a dick. Kent was never suspended for what he was accused of so why stir up conterversy thats not even there?

Thunder Gulch 05-15-2010 07:48 PM

Desormeaux is an ass, so no sympathy. Loud mouth f*ck blames everyone but his own crappy rides.

randallscott35 05-15-2010 07:50 PM

He was confident Paddy was a turf horse after that effort.

 If Kent really did look that way, he did it to himself. I don't think he looked as bad as you seem to think he did. There's no statute of limitations on screwy rides in Triple Crown races. People rant about Smarty Jones' trip in the Belmont every year, sometimes not even during the TC season.

Costas wasn't playing "gotcha journalism." He might blunder into something, but he's not malicious. He found a connection that sounded all soap opera-y and asked about it. At worst, it was lazy. It's not irrelevant. If Bob had really wanted a good interview, he should've gotten hold of Kent in Bermuda. Steve showed everybody how it's done. ;)

Desormeux stiffed him with the bar tab in Bermuda...True story.
