I had a love hate relationship with Skip Away. I loved watching him run but hated betting on him at Short prices.
I remember being at Monmouth Park for one of his races (I think the Iselin) in either a 5 or 6 horse field and the track didn't allow show wager, for fear of creating a minus pool. For some reason that really irked me as I wanted to bet against him finishing in the money assuming that there would be several "jumpers." Oh Well RIP big guy. |
I witnessed both his BC Efforts.
Anyone who followed horse racing during his career could not help to be a fan of Skip Away, the class of races in which he competed, and how often and hard he ran. Sure could use a horse like him now in the older male division. I believe it was Steve Haskin that wrote a powerful, moving article for Bloodhorse not too long ago about Skip Away's owners (the Hines) and the impact that the horse had on their lives. Hope Haskin makes an appearance on ATR to talk about Skip Away. Really sad to hear that this special horse (who I believe is 3rd on the career earnings list) is no longer with us. |
RIP Skippy.
|
They don't make 'em like him anymore. RIP.
|
Good night. :(
