Meet Margano
http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/nican...l-brother.aspx
Well it's official. We have a newly named Barbaro brother with a couple fresh pictures. He's definitely darker than the others. He's still got LVR's star. This is the colt that was pretty big at birth and had some cracked ribs and other health issues. Would the size and coloring indicate a little more Dynaformer influence perhaps? |
I thought there was a filly full-sibling in there somewhere?

Margano, a 2-year-old full brother to 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, is entered to make his debut in Saturday’s 10th race, a 1 1/16-mile turf race that goes as the last. Margano, like Barbaro, is owned by Lael Stable. Unlike Barbaro, who was trained by Michael Matz, Margano is trained by Barclay Tagg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pblI0oc5Vk |
That's a really interesting turf MSW.

Looks like a mix of first time starters and non-winners. I know maidens are super fun to handicap, but how does Margano look in this field? Basically what odds should he be versus what he'll end up with as a Barbaro brother? |
Our Entourage is a son of Sand Springs, there are five six-figure purchases in the race and some interesting turf runners from first-crop sires that did well on turf (Which Market by After Market, Gold Megillah by Purim). Margano is certain to be overbet, but he's obviously a must-use.

Finished 7th.

Margano broke his maiden today on turf. DRF's Twitter said it was very impressive and to keep an eye on him this winter. I haven't had a chance to see the race yet, but here's a photo of Margano going into the winner's circle via Alex Brown: http://twitpic.com/7rip3f You can see Barclay Tagg walking behind him. Who's the jockey?
|
@Derbycontenders tweeted some photos of him, too. Great looking colt.

Video of Margano's race today. He rallied very nicely in the stretch for the win.

Thanks to Monarchos1 and Theatrical for the heads up on the photos and the video. I think he's a pretty striking colt. It's something about his mane. It always seems a little wild, as if making it stay flat and evenly cut would be next to impossible, and I find it a little endearing when I see horses with that characteristic. |
