Churchill closed today, why?

Makes no sense, the day after the Derby don't you want to continue the momentum and get another big crowd, at least 30,000? Instead the next racing day is Thursday. Yea I know they do 4 day a week racing but not to have a card today is ludicrous. No wonder racing has a hard time attracting patrons.

The pile of trash left by yesterday's patrons is too deep, and they have to clean it up. The infield, the extra seating, the tents, etc. They are not in any physical shape to open today.

And if they had racing today, they couldn't do any of the above while the horses are working in the am, or in the afternoon while they are racing.

Not to mention the weather today.

The over/under on post Derby Sunday card attendance is closer to 3000k than 30000.

3 million people showed up to the derby? Interesting as the population of Louisville is only 1.2 million.

Attendance was 155,804. Pretty good considering all the rain. The crowd for the Kentucky Oaks on Friday broke the all-time record and was 116,046.

I guess that New Yorkers are more civilized and neater than Kentuckians and Baltimorians.

That used to be the case, but not anymore, it is closed the day after the Belmont. I believe the last time they were open on the Sunday after was when Artie Schiller won a turf stakes. The problem after such a big day is that no one goes to the track the day after.

Everyone is either tapped or still piss drunk :)

everyone has to go to church today to confess their sins from yesterday. either that or pray to the porcelain gods that they'll never imbibe again, if the pain will just go away!
