3/19: Santa Anita ($74k C/O)
 

With all six winners somewhere in selections, made a sincere run at Wednesday's Santa Anita carryover stringing 2nd-5th legs together successfully on the play. But winners of the bookend 1st and 6th legs were at the bottom of the tabs and off the play, as Gutierrez nightcap price frustratingly denied even a conso hit or P4 score (live to 3 horses paying $150-$350).

It was one of those sequences where even with an obvious single in Canonize ($3.60 as 4-5 fave), the 2 second choice ($8.00, $10.00) and 2 third choice ($8.80, $9.40) winners combined with the 5th choice upsetter ($17.60) to make negotiating the sextet challenging. But the challenge was rewarded with $42,475 returns. Hope you did OK! Another P6 carryover today though ($74,550), and this one also seems approachable.

Very well might have. Problem was, at least for me, taking Legal Blonde out of the play in favor of Sh Sh Shakin. Keeping Legal Blonde an "A" or even a "B" means that there is a chance the Gutierrez nightcap winner might show up on a successful backup play. But as TitanSooner's winning play in the $2k contest showed, you needed to be very well covered in several spots besides the 3rd and 8th to win this thing. The 6th, with Lucky Primo, Norvey, Tamarack Smarty, et al, was treacherous, as was the 4th with Van Brit, Sleep Tight, Victoria Reel, etc. When you look at it afterwards, you think to yourself, "There was only the one tough horse (8th) to have for $42k", but it was a slippery sequence...

Thanks. Midstretch of the 6th it looked like I was in great shape, and then the complexion changed in two jumps. That winner was a horse I really needed to have seen given he was progressing and dropping. Very frustrating outcome. Big day ahead though with P4 & C/O at AQU, Magna 5 and superb card at GP.
