This is a pretty harsh sentence in New York in light of recent changes in New York courts focusing more on rehablitation with regard to drug offenses. I am a bit surprised that he wasn't given an opportunity to be evaluated for and attend drug rehab with an agreement of a reduction of the charge and a promise of no jail if he successfully completed.

Tough penalty considering how these offenses are generally handled today in New York. I have seen people with much worse records than his get a rehabilitative shot under these circumstances. It is shame, but he only has himself to blame.

I think his best defense would've been that he wasn't mentally competent. This would've been easy enough to prove, as only RETARDS fail to put their seatbelts on when they have a bunch of coke in the car.

On the other hand, adding some BOW to his legs (by getting bent over for a couple of years) might just improve this idiot's riding abilty.

It could, then, turn out to be all for the best.

lol, i agree. i've tried it and i can't understand paying that kind of money to feel like sh^t the next day. i guess we get wiser with age. he was actually having a good meet up here for a jockey of his status. he had like 6 mounts the day he got busted.....its such a shame. someone called him an idiot rider but i have to disagree, the guy was agressive, fearless and made horses win that others would not of. people don't ever realize that the stuff is the devil. its like drinking, once it gets you, its hard to give up. it gets to the point where you flush the toilet and hear your life going down the drain. most of these people need help. jail is a waste but maybe he will straighten out.

Can you get licensed in New York with a felony?Or is it a case by case thing?
