Weather Channel: 90% chance of rain at SA Sat.

This should prove interesting.

Supposedly they're putting a tarp on the Pro-Ride Friday night:

With a forecast for rain and five days of racing having been lost this meet because of drainage problems with the Santa Anita Pro-Ride main track, track officials are taking precautions. Late Friday, a plastic tarp is scheduled to be placed over the main track.
"If it happens, it will be the first time in history a racetrack will be covered," said the track's superintendent, Richard Tedesco.

Quite a tarp.

I cannot imagine they would take the G1 Kilroe off the turf. Why didn't they also card that race for Sunday?

They must have a back-up plan (could be the tarp they are talking about using).

Should be interesting with Hammerle on ATR tomorrow.

The water still has to go somewhere though.

I think it was done 5 or 6 years ago somewhere. Can't remember where; I do know I've seen posts about having indoor tracks for at least that long.

90% chance of rain with a 100% chance of cancelling...does it get any better than this?

freddymo 03-05-2010 07:22 AM

live about 30 miles from anita, as of 6:30 this morning the storm,if it continues the path its traveling will be more late saturday thru sunday.

LARHAGE 03-05-2010 09:49 AM

I live locally and the news this morning is the storm will be moving more
towards the San Diego area, we will get a half inch maybe late morning, clearing up by afternoon and a beautiful Sunday.

Mike 03-05-2010 09:52 AM

The turf might well be other than "Firm", but I don't think this would cause a dirt track to get the point of "sloppy" or "muddy"

Alan07 03-05-2010 11:44 AM

It's entirely possible Santa Anita gets NO Rain this weekend

SCUDSBROTHER 03-06-2010 01:41 AM

They are saying stuff like "A few thunderstorms are going to be around(mainly in the afternoon, and evening.") I think it's a go. Will maybe be like it was on the 5th of FEB.

Thunder Gulch 03-06-2010 08:15 AM

It's time for anyone with Derby aspirations to get the hell out of Cali and head east for reasonable prep....of course you could have said that anyway with the synthetic tracks.
