Early favorite for worst gambling decision of the century?

Who in the hell bridgejumps on a 4k claiming race at Beulah Park for horses who haven't won a single race in 6 months? And the race was run over a sloppy-sealed track.

The 6/5 favorite Houston Heist was 6th and 7th at the same class level in her two prior starts ... running Beyers of 28 and -0

The 9/5 second choice Rainbow Flight was making a trainer change from high percentage Eric Reed to a trainer who is 4-for-108 1st start in new barn - and is 1-for-52 off of the 31-to-60 day layoff. Also got a negative rider swith to a jock who won just 26 of his 481 mounts in '09.

Duvalier 02-24-2010 01:33 PM

How much was the show pool for that race?

MISTERGEE 02-24-2010 01:33 PM

wish I was there, I heard there is a twitter acct where they will notify you of the minus pools?

The Indomitable DrugS 02-24-2010 01:40 PM

I'm guessing it was a show bet in the $5,000 to $8,000 range.

MaTH716 02-24-2010 01:45 PM

My guesses. Either, juice gone wrong or a Keypunch error.

There was a 1/2 favorite in a five horse field in AQU's 3rd race ... but that horse was #5 .... in the Beu race ... the 5 horse went off at odds of 7/2 and paid $27.20 to show .... so that rules out keypunch error.

It was specific to the 1 horse, Houston Heist, 10,397$ to show on him, $11,248 total pool.

I was thinking more along the lines of 50 to show versus 5000. I don't even know if that's possible with the autotote machines. But I was thinking maybe a zero stuck somewhere. Even a mutual clerk freeroll type deal (with times being so tough), that blew up in his or hers face .

Reminds me of the 50$ win ticket limit thing in Let It Ride...where he get all those win tickets.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

The best part of it is that the horse who won the race and paid $87.80 to show today (Our Last Dance) finished 2nd in a race where the bridgejumped Houston Heist finished 6th in all of 12 days ago!

I hope whoever made the bet slipped one of these past the teller instead of paying with real money....

The best I've seen was at GP about 2002 or 3 in a allowance race. About 400k put on a horse to show.....3 hundred plus on show payouts.

MISTERGEE 02-24-2010 02:33 PM

I like this, 1 to 20 shot

I think it was last year at Turfway Park someone put $5,000 to win on a 5 yr old first time starter. They opened the gates and the horse just stood there. They had to lead him out of the gate so they could move it out of the way.

Gate opened so no refund. They bet $5k on a horse that didn't even run around the track.
