Cool n Collective

Nice piece on an old man, his owner, and love. :)

Hope he wins (and that he's retired).

If his owner loved him, he would've retired him the countless times he's owned him before. 13 years old.

Agreed... He has done enough.

Rudeboyelvis 01-29-2010 10:17 PM

>>>Repole said whatever happens Sunday - and beyond - he plans to find Cool n Collective a good home when the horse does eventually retire.

"If he wins I might retire him," Repole said. "It's not about the $16,000 purse. I might just write a big check to one of the foundations to take care of this horse."<<<

Nothing but class. One of the best owners in the game.

Still game as ever at 13. Checked in second after leading throughout and dueling down the lane.

Read my earlier post. I bet money and won on Cool N Collective at the Big M when I was still in diapers....This horse should be retired. The idea that winning a race at 13 should give the owner some sort of rush.

If the horse is sound and competitive, then let him run.

Bullshit. He's 13, runs in wraps in the winter at AQ for 7500....He is the type that will break down trying. How'd Lava Man fair in the last after a few years off and being so sound frolicking in the field.....85 starts, give me a break.

Did he run like a horse that needed to be retired today?

Repole deserves no blame for this at all and in the grand scheme of things, I highly doubt he needs the money that will be earned by Cool N Collective, considering his personal worth. Repole has poured a lot of money into the game already and is the type of person we need to keep the game going. Aribitrarily assuming that a 13YO horse needs to be retired and that his owner is some POS for running him seems like a rush to judgment to me.

That's one owner (not that there aren't many others) you don't need to worry about running broken horses to make a nickle.

Ironically if a horse does breakdown, it is too late to retire him at that point....Just don't tell me how much this horse means to you when you run him for 7500 at AQ, just don't...

I don't understand how you feel it's OK for you to arbitrarily decide which horses should and shouldn't be racing. In other words, because of his age, Cool N Collective, according to you should not be racing, but others get your go ahead?

You do realize how ridiculous this is....right?

phystech 01-31-2010 07:26 PM

As an owner in this sport that I am so lucky to be a part of, I really get tired of reading posts from non-owners who feel it is their peragotive to determine when a horse needs to be retired. In watching the race, this horse was real competitive - can't ask for more than that.....

Andy, Run him all you want...Just don't fill up a DRF article saying how much you love this horse and then run him for that tag at 13....so if he got claimed for 7500, and ran back next week lame as hell for 10k, you'd have no bearing on it b'c you no longer own him....This is common sense, here. Age has less bearing than the back story. Apparently you need to read the DRF article again.

Yawn, who gives a **** if you own horses, it makes your opinion worth as much as Michael Gill.

As an owner of racehorses in NY myself, I can tell you that I know Mr. Repole as well as his stable manager. I know firsthand their commitment to the game and more importantly their commitment to the horses they run.

With all due respect Randall, I appreciate your opinion, but you know not of which you speak.

Did you read the article? He's re-claimed the horse multiple times. Did it also dawn on you that an article about a 13YO horse running was a nice feature story? If Repole was approached by Dave Grening for the story and agreed to do it should he have said, "Actually I hate the horse, he's expensive and I don't care what happens to him?"

Sorry, but this is uninformed sanctimonious drivel.
