It's one of my bigger beefs about having to pay for some service. Sure if racing means a lot to you you can pay like others do for, oh I dunno, the NFL channel or something. Still, it's lousy for promotion, esp. with new people. Who coughs up $50 to try out a niche sport on a niche channel when they barely watch the Derby for free every year on network tv? Of course we all feel like we're shouting at the wind when we gripe about lack of effective marketing of the sport, I suppose.
I was poking around after going to the Gulfstream feed, watching other races that got my attention on the 'related videos', and realized I'd never rewatched the 2006 Preakness after it was on tv. Only re-watched the part where Barbaro got hurt because it got replayed over and over again. Usually I see these replays a million times but maybe it was too difficult. I know it wasn't a conscious choice to ignore it, but I did apparently. I didn't even pay much attention while it was happening because, like a lot of folks, I was in shock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhtW5...eature=related Can I just say wow, Bernardini was pretty fantastic and boy did he get the short end of the stick that day. Weird to watch it around the anniversary of Barbaro's death but I have a new appreciation for Bernardini now.
