Lots of negativity towards prepping on synthetic. I wonder how Keeneland will feel this year when they get a bunch of retreads while the big boys go to Arkansas and Aqueduct?

McPeek's comment was interesting. Never heard of the difficulty of the Triple Crown attributed to Lasix before.

Trainer Ken McPeek said he prefers a shorter horizon.

"I like three or four weeks," he said. "One reason I think horses need more time is because of using Lasix. It takes 25 pounds of fluid off of them. That's a lot of water weight to replenish in a short period of time. That's why I think it's been so difficult for a horse to win the Triple Crown. I think Lasix should be eliminated from all Grade 1 races in North America. The sooner we do it, the more respect the world will have for our top races."

Keeneland does whatever they want. They offer what they consider to be A-class racing, and if owners or trainers don't want to attend, I really don't think they care.

They will be crying all the way to the bank. It will not affect the good people of Lexington coming out to the track one iota.

That's true.The majority of them just come to get drunk.

I think there will be trainers that are prepping to win a cheap Stallion career for a horse by winning a Grade 1 in the Bluegrass or Santa Anita derby.
Then there will be trainers prepping to win the Ky derby.

The days of the same horse winning the Bluegrass and the Ky derby are over.
Of course, the folks at the Fair Grounds, Oaklawn, and NYRA are not complaining.

I think Gulfstream is making a big mistake by moving the Fla derby back a week.
It's like Todd Pletcher said '2 out of the past 4 derby winners have come out of the Florida Derby, why change something that is working great.'

although 25 lbs is only about 5% of their total weight.

what derby trail? the new way is that the best horses, if you can even call them that. have not even made a start yet or have just broken their maidens. its to the point where i won't even get interested until the end of march.
