I can't give an honest opinion on this because I still have visions from that movie where Joe Pesci is standing their with a win ticket on this harness horse and the jockey starts dragging his feet on the ground so then Joe Pesci goes out on the track and whoops on him. What was the name of that movie, what a funny scene:D

I can't stand Bill Finley. Drug problems with horse racing are everywhere, to claim that harness racing is somehow cleaner is moronic. Last time I looked the guy that was leading the standings there is in jail for drugging. They didn't catch him through testing or a detention barn, simply b/c of a police sting based on obtaining illegal blood doping. So essentially the cheaters are always a step ahead. I'm sure the same thing is going on everywhere. Again, the way you can stop this is by freezing samples and being able to test years later with the threat of 5 year time bans....But nobody has the balls to do it.

I agree with some of what Finley is saying. The thoroughbred tracks need to get much tougher on these guys. These guys usually only get a slap on the wrist. If they knew that they might go to jail, at least there would be more of a deterrent.

I would love to see them raid the homes of some of these cheating trainers and vets and catch these guys with the goods.

This issue(illegal drugs) is quite hard on the TRAINERS/OWNERS that don't cheat(or don't cheat as much.)It is less an issue for the horse bettor.It means more short prices for the bettor (when a cheater claims a horse.)See,people who bet horses know who is best at getting horses to run.They don't know how they do get them to run.The high % trainers don't particularly hurt the horseplayers all that much(just makes it chalky.)What hurts the horseplayer are the guys that only drug certain horses at long odds.The awful thing about Harness is that people get zero entertainment when the horses they play break-go off stride etc. As long as they ignore that p.r. wound,that sport will continue to be a joke.

T-Breds need to take some cues on the whole detention barn situation. It seems like a no brainer to everyone. Way to easy to fix races in harness racing though. Sit on the rail, sit on the rail, sit on the rail, whip really hard to go from 6th to 5th down the stretch!!!

Plus a leading driver in an interview admitted a few years ago that most drivers will quit trying if they can not get the win. They want the trainer to use them again when the horse runs one week later so they don't use a horse hard if they can get up for second or third.

i guess the weights don't matter. something about the physics of the thing. the weight of the jockey actually lifts the horse somewhat and makes them feel lighter.

Yeah...the weights vary all over...you get kids like Brad Hanners that weighs about 1 buck soaking wet and then you get a dude like Nick Clegg that needs to become best friends with Jenny Craig and Richard Simmons.:eek:
