typically when a heavy favorite wins leg 1 and a price horse wins leg 2.

The pick 3 and pick 4 are totally seperate pools. It can and does happen especially at tracks where the pools are small.

Agree with Drugs on the pattern which creates this.
Don't know if it means much, but the TVG guy had it- there were 166 winning $1 tickets. If just 40 people followed along with him for a buck, the payoff goes from $617 for $2 to the actual $466. Given that it was one of the only tracks running, it is a possibility. |
Even though the $26 horse was the longest shot on the board, he was very logical. He was just coming off a win 6 days earlier where he drew off and won by widening lengths going 6.5f. It was a conditioned claimer and this was an open claimer for the same price, so he was stepping up a tad, but not that much for this track (I could be slightly off on some of these facts, I'm going by memory which is not good). Even a dumbass like me included him without much thought.
I was stunned that he paid $26. I think it was more of a case of the $26 horse being drastically overlaid in the win pool but was used properly in the P4 pools. |
