That's a tough break for Tim Ice and Dr. J. Glad to hear the horse is okay relatively speaking.

This isn't life threatening but I assume it's career threatening right? Poor Tim. Not the greatest way to punctuate a year. How soon before you load SB up into a plane and get him home? Is it just a matter of bandages and tranquilizers?

Yeah, that's pretty much my feeling. The ONE 3yo (male) I was really excited for next year for.
But the word on DRF isn't as bad as what we had originally thought...

no big deal just 4 months or so

chucklestheclown 11-29-2009 02:07 AM

Good he is (supposedly) OK. But, personally, I was never excited about him. I was just praying he wouldn't embarrass the U.S. In fact, I think it is pathetic he will win an Eclipse award. He is barely above average.

"Summer Bird is a leading candidate for 3-year-old champion. He has won 4 of 9 starts and $2,323,040."

4 of 9 gets you an Eclipse? I would like to submit RA for DNA testing so she can get the 3yo award also.

When three of those four are the Belmont, Travers and JCGC, yeah, that'll usually get you an Eclipse. Personally I love the way the horse was brought along and am disheartened to see this happen. Hopefully he'll still be back at 4.

That's what you get in the age of twitter.

If he enjoys what he does then maybe we'll see him next summer .

i agree , this horse did not even race until spring. maiden win to graded stakes. how can anyone think hes not deserving, hes clearly the best 3 yo colt and probably would be the best horse next year. this really sucks.....

Coach Pants 11-29-2009 08:41 AM

Shocking. It's such a good course.

You mean like Tiger Woods is in serious condition, when in reality, he just got his ass kicked by his wife after he was caught cheating on her?

I don't know. The first report was pretty detailed if the quotes are accurate. Wasn't Tim Ice on the scene?

Not sure if the owner was in Japan as well, but he certainly didn't offer up as much info as Ice did.

Of course, there's always the possibility that he suffered both injuries.
