Beulah 7th race ruled "no contest"

Can anybody tell me what the blank happened? I'm fuming right now!!!

eajinabi 11-28-2009 04:28 PM

Not sure what happened. I take it you had a winning ticket

joeydb 11-28-2009 05:55 PM

Yeah, had a 30-1 up top, 9 to 5 2nd place and 14 to 1 3rd place trifecta. I got screwed big time. They called it a "no contest" and did not give any explaination. It should have been a huge payout.

If I were new to this game, I'd never play again. This is such BULL.

Steve, if you find out what happened, please talk about it on Monday's show.

Joe

Joe,

Will find out what happened. Was there a gate malfunction? Did all the horses get out clean? That will always necessitate a 'no contest' call.

Spill results in no-contest at Beulah
By John McDulin

GROVE CITY, Ohio - The seventh race at Beulah Park on Saturday was declared a no-contest when jockey Wilkin Ortiz was thrown from his mount, Pacarrie's Magic, at the start.

Pacarrie's Magic, a 7-year-old gelding, stumbled at the start of the one-mile event and Ortiz tumbled to the ground. He lay motionless in the stretch of this one-mile track as the horses reached the far turn and the track stewards had the announcer tell the riders to pull up as the gate crew tried to wave the field down.

Ortiz got up with the help of the ambulance crew as the horses turned for home and got into the ambulance under his own power. Pacarrie's Magic was uninjured.

Damn Steve, took you all of 2 minutes to find out what happened.

joeydb 11-28-2009 06:23 PM

I just saw that on DRF myself. I hope the jockey is OK. I was in a crowded simulcast parlor, so we did not hear any announcement and there was no explaination given or typed on the screen. All we knew was the "no contest" status and our bets refunded.

When they showed the rider at the gate as part of the steward's view, we did not assume that he didn't get up or that he was still there when the horses came around. We could not see any of that from the monitors. It looked like a normally run race.

Nice redboard.

On Wednesday at Hollywood Park a route race was going on but the gate crew could not move the gate until the horses were at the sixteenth pole. If you watch the replay Talamo kinda pulled up his horse which probably compromised his placing yet no talk of a NO Contest. Good job with the gate crew to pull it off as it would have been bad.

Joey, if you haven't enjoyed the "original" Beulah thread (titled Beulah Racing) yet. Hit the seach button on the top menu, type in Beulah, scroll down a bit to the Beulah racing, click and enjoy.
