Top 3

I know its still over a week away, but I am getting excited.... The nomination pp's are out and even though some of the horses I name now wont even be running, I still enjoy doing this. Im going to give my top 3 "most likely" for every race. If the horses I name run, I will almost def. be using them. They are in order, so the first horse of every 3 is my most likely winner.

FRIDAY
Marathon-

Mastery, Cloudys Knight, Man of Iron

JvFillyTurf-

Lillie Langtry, Junia Tepzia, Hatheer

Filly Sprint-

Sara Louise, Informed Decision, Ventura----Really dont like this race...

JvFilly-

Always a Princess, Negligee, Connie and Micheal

FM Turf-

Forever Together, Dar Re Mi, Midday

Distaff-

Music Note, Rainbow View " I think shes going here" Proviso

SATURDAY
JvTurf-

Viscount Nelson, Buzzword, Pounced

Turf Sprint-

Fleeting Spirit, Gotta Have Her, Diamondrella.... I would lean on these, and back up with as many as 4 more....

Dirt Mile-

Quality Road, Giralomo, Furthest Land... FL could be upgraded if either of the other 2 go to Classic. I think FL has huge shot.

Jv-

Lookin at Lucky, Eskendereya

Mile-

Cowboy Cal, Court Vision, Courageous Cat

Sprint-

Zensational

Turf-

Spanish Moon, Conduit, Presious Passion

Classic-

Zenyatta, Rip Van Winkle, Mastercraftsman,Richards Kid.... I would use Quality Road and Giralomo in pick 3's if they run here.

almost 300 horses and you already finished handicapping?

that's like reading war and peace in 20 minutes.

Its just an early look, but I did spend about 3 hours on it.

Aren't the actual fields, posts, and jockeys important in your handicapping?

Take some time, relax, get some early opinions on paper (not the interwebs), watch some videos, watch some of what other handicappers are selecting so you have a better idea of what the real odds will be. Handicapping the BC is a weeklong process- not a 3 hour cramfest.

At this point, if you still aren't familiar with the horses, you probably shouldn't be wagering on them. I would feel comfortable making preliminary selections already. I don't feel like jockeys and post positions make that much difference in the vast majority of cases. Who needs to look at a post position or a past performance to know what Zenyatta and Music Note are about or to know what Summer Bird or Gio Ponti have done?
