Most impressive win so far
slow racing day...
besides the 3 Triple Crown races....who has been the most impressive winner so far this year in your mind? It can be any kind of race...turf...dirt...sprint....route. Let's hear your opinion and why you think it was the most impressive. |
The Tin Man. You don't see 8yos winning G1 races very often.

He won by what, about 13 lengths and ran a Beyer of about 117 (again these #s are off the top of my head). He was impressive that day. |
I think INVASOR's win in the Pimlico Special over Wanderin Boy, Harlington, etc... I know it was a small field, but Invasor looked like a beaten horse at the top of the stretch and then came back to fly by Wanderin Boy and win going away...

LOL...oh yeah....AWESOME no doubt...but I just thought the way that he was headed by West Virginia and Harlington at the top of the stretch and then not only beat them down, but ran down the front running Wanderin Boy to beat him by a few lengths showed alot of heart. |
Barbaro's Derby, hands down. Largest winning margin since TC winner Assault in '46 against what many called the best field in years.

Off the top of my head, Sun King was very impressive outfinishing Kazoo in that sprint stake at Keeneland.
Bluegrass Cat winning the Haskell was mighty fine too. |
Yeah I have to agree with you, Sinister Minister was smoking on that day and if memory serves me right didn't that exacta pay large?
Bushfire ran a great race I wanna say it was on the undercard of The Derby? Almost every turf race I have watched this year has had a great finish. Quote:

Balance was oozing class when she won the SA Oaks. Looking back, it probably wasn't as good as I thought that day, but it was a thing of beauty when it happened.

Circular Quay.
Thought I'd pour some gas on the fire. |
it's an excellent question for a thread
I've got three: Principle Secret at DelMar (best 2 y/o on the West Coast) Smokey Stover at Golden Gate (this year's LITF?) Gorella at Arlington (she just kicked by with such ease) |
Lava Man in the Gold Cup was pretty impressive to me...
|
Gorella on the Belmont Stakes undercard was more impressive than her win last weekend. I couldn't believe the way she caught that runaway speed horse at the wire.
I would say the two best male horses I've seen run this year may be Invasor and Surf Cat. |
Yeah I like this thread too. For me it is three and in no order:
1) Deep Impact - That last race was awesome. (although I dont think he can beat the Euro's). 2) Barbaro - the Derby win was unreal. 3) Gorella - not her last race, but the one at Belmont when she ran down the lone speed. |
