Macho Again to Skip Breeders' Cup Classic

not sure off the top of my head, but was he Poly tested?

Cannon Shell assured me MA would be there.

I think this was perhaps a well timed cough - and it sounds a lot better than saying "we will skip the race because we can't beat a goat on this surface."

Macho Again's non-dirt record is as follows:

* 7th beaten 13 lengths at 8/5 odds at Keeneland on poly

* 7th beaten 13 lengths behind Adriano in the Spiral at Turfway

* 6th beaten 12 lengths at 2/1 odds on the turf in the Woodchopper Stakes at FG.

Hes done enough. Consider him retired.

It was also predicted the Yankees would miss the playoffs.

Good decision by them. No reason to run if you have a dirt horse who can't transfer his form to synthetics

Shouldn't they try and suck up for 4th its worth a few hundred k...I would side with Cannon Ball on this one..The horse is most likely on the PUP list

It's more than a cough. He needed a 100,000 mile turn out...

I thought as much as well.. I am sure they could inject him into the race but why when the handicap division is so weak..

What does that have to do with the Yankees?

And I am glad that those guys are running for that money. Beats being in the hands of already mega rich casino operators or the elected criminals.

Macho Again had as much of a chance to finish 7th or better in the Classic or Dirt Mile as I have to win a VMA on one of those MTV award shows.

If I was connected to the horse ... I would lie about an epic like sickness causing him to miss the race because ducking the race without an excuse would only remind people of how terrible he is on anything that's not dirt. I realize the horse will be a huge bust as a stud no matter what.. but, it's not a gelding or a filly, so the connections have every justifiable right to lie and mislead because doing so is actually to their benefit.

Or maybe they really did get lucky - and the horse got sick - and thus allowing them to miss the BC for the 2nd year in a row.

I'm going to be Lady Gaga for Halloween.

They would be stupid to ship all the way to Cali, when a taylormade race like the Clark at CD is waiting on him next month.

Gander 10-22-2009 09:58 AM

A cough. LOL. You have to love the bullshit in the game! Just like Point Given stubbed his toe while getting on a plane after his Travers win, shipping back to California. Riiiight. They were really disappointed they couldnt keep him in training and racing instead of whisking off to the shed. I think he started having babies just weeks after his "toe stubbing.". LOL! He did enough.

Cannon Shell 10-22-2009 09:59 AM

Why would they lie? What is there to hide with Macho Uno? Why would anyone care?

The Indomitable DrugS 10-22-2009 10:03 AM

Macho Uno was a fine horse.

I know I would.

If you have a filly you planned to keep or a gelding there would be no reason at all to lie.

If you have some overrated Grade 1 winning nag who's made almost $2 million - I think it's pretty dumb to do something that would remind anyone that he sucks on synthetic and turf. They overpay for stallions like him.

Forget Raven's Pass and Henrythenavigator. After watching Tiago finish in front of Curlin last year, I'd never count out any horse on this stuff. Logic says one thing. The stupid results we get on this stuff says another.

It is a real reach to think that WP decided that it was risking MA's stallion reputation by running in the Classic and needing to find an easy way out. Primarily because he has little real credentials to be a stallion that would be desired for anything but a regional market. Regional markets dont pay big bucks for stallions. he can make more money with suck up second and thirds than he can as a stallion.
