I hope not. Football > 5 horse fields.

videogirl10 10-02-2009 08:05 AM

True forgot about that. When your team sucks, you tend to do that.

TouchOfGrey 10-02-2009 08:57 AM

MSG Plus is live from Belmont from 4:30 to 6:00.

TropicalStorm 10-02-2009 09:37 AM

Why would any major channel show these races. There is not 1 big name horse running.

Sadly the way the sport is marketed there are only 2 US horses anyone knows and 1 is done for the year and the other is the KY Derby winner that has not won since May.

The ARC will get great interest overseas and is really the only big race this weekend.

I will predict another weekend of 100-105 beyers from a very mediocre group of horses.

The loss of Icon Project was huge. I guess some might believe Quality Road may reemerge as a great horse but for what? 1 more race on a synthetic and retirement?

hockey2315 10-02-2009 10:42 AM

Right. . . Icon Project is a bigger name than Summer Bird.

Danzig 10-02-2009 10:46 AM

i just want to know how something can be very mediocre.

TropicalStorm 10-02-2009 11:07 AM

Summer Bird is a big name? You couldn't find 1 person outside current fans that have ever heard of him.

Icon Project on the other hand has proven her greatness and she is much more likely to do something like win in a romp than anyone else.

Icon Project probably would have won the JCGC if entered.

Icon Project is the best dirt animal in the world. She is very fast and has no 9f distance limitations.

Rachel Alexandra is on the shelf because she likely could not beat IP.

You posted this on purpose to fire everyone up right.

:zz:

this has to be a joke

TropicalStorm 10-02-2009 11:27 AM

I posted it because I believe Icon Project is the best dirt animal in the world at the classic distance and may be the best 9f horse as well.

I hope she returns next year because I believe she will be a real all-time great, not a manufactured all-time great that needs a huge weight break to beat very mediocre horses.

I am an old school person that believes the word greatness gets thrown around too much and I have not seen a great horse since Ghostzapper. Invasor was close but even he fell short of great.

I like Rachel Alexandra but a horse that goes on the shelf in September that averages beyers below 110 is not great.

I know the sport is looking for some savior but a 110 level beyer horse is pretty average by any year. And most do not need weight breaks to do it. If anything they usually carry more weight.

The only truly great horses that will run in the US this year are Europeans in the mile and maybe in the Classic.

Could Rachel be great next year? Yes. But as of now she appears to be no faster than your typical top grade 1 horse of any year.

On a somewhat related note, is there any reason why the NTRA has completely phased out the National PK 4 wager? I know they used to do it at least 3-4 times a year, and I think the next one would be next week, with races and Belmont, Santa Anita and maybe Keenland.

Every horse player I know likes these types of bets, and with the Magna 5 and the Sixty Minute 6 being things of the past, I think doing more of these could only help the game, and the exposure of national racing. It makes for great TV, too, when ESPN is showing the Champagne from Belmont, the Goodwood from Santa Anita and the Spinster from Keenland, etc..

Antitrust32 10-02-2009 11:58 AM

PG's opinion is 1000000X better than CrossdresserHurricane. In fact, I've noticed a big improvement in PG's handicapping and posting abilities. I'm sure I'll get a few :zz: for that but lets get back to Icon Project.

I'm sorry, but she's not the best dirt horsie in the world. Its really that simple.

TropicalStorm 10-02-2009 12:07 PM

If Icon Project is not the best dirt horse in the world who is?

Summer Bird? She appears to be quite a bit faster.

I saw Rachel and Icon Project this summer and Icon Project looked much more formidable. She had no proble going 10f.

If I am correct Icon Project has the biggest two turn figure in the country this year and the fastest non off-track figure too.

Please though, tell me who could beat her on the dirt? I could use a laugh.

It sounded like on the radioshow this week that the IP connections are afraid of nobody and I agree.

I dont think its that simple and as much as I like Rachel, saying Icon Project could beat her at a classic distance isnt much of a stretch at all. I wish she was running on real dirt this weekend to show how much better she is than Music Note. What a jip we get as fans of dirt racing because of the polyjunk.

TropicalStorm 10-02-2009 01:11 PM

Polytrack is ok but not for the Breeders Cup. It makes sense at Turfway and it is even ok for 1 of CA tracks and I think it would be fine at Aqueduct, but it should never be a BC venue because there are plenty of turf races.

The great thing about the Classic being on dirt is a great grass horse that can win a race like the ARC and then a dirt classic would be a truly incredible animal.

You're not correct.

"VERY" is added to emphasize you're not happy about it being this way.
