Toys! Remember when.....

Someone asked me today if I had ever played Mystery Date when i was a kid.....

Now I vaguely remember a board game with a door and three clean-cut guys and one loser type. I'm assuming he was the one i wanted to "date". Don't remember really..... I was very young and don't know if I played it or if the memory exists cause my older sister had it or what.

Anyway, between this conversation and the images of oracle in his plaid (sorry!) pants i got to thinking..... when you were a kid, what were some of your favorite games, toys, objects, tv shows?

Let's go back in time..... :D

I remember having Rockem Sockem robots and watching Lancelot Link Secret Chimp and I Dream of Jeannie.

What I remember is how little boys were ripped off with football games.

There was one type that had a vibrating playing field with little plastic men on stands. It took forever to get all the men set up, and once you did you would turn on the switch for the vibration and they would all spin around in circles or head straight for the out of bounds. On the commercial it looked like they were actually running plays.

Then there was another one I had called foto-electric football. It was nothing but a carboard box with a lightbulb inside. then you put two paper cutouts (one for offense and one for defense) on top of the box and slowly pulled away the piece of carboard covering the light. The light illuminated the offense/defense plays and you were supposed to get excited by watching the lines. the biggest ripoff in history. On the commercial the kids were all screaming and jumping with excitement. Yeah right!

I don't really remember playing with too many toys as a kid(we were considered poor). I grew up in Kidsville USA (La Puente Calif ) around the time people were putting bomb shelters in their back yards around 1962. I remember watching Bonanza in color, thats how far I go back. Red Skelton Hour and Dick Lane covering Roller Derby

Well, lets see......I had one of those vibrating football games, also a horse racing one, and an auto racing one. little felt ball...kicker was spring loaded. Lots of toy guns, toy soldiers. My favorite TV show was "Winky Dink"...they sent you this clear plastic sheet which stuck to the TV by static electricity and you used crayons to draw houses, walls etc for Winky...really cool! Sling shot...got in all kinds of trouble with that! Collecting Baseball cards....those were the days!

Only really neat toy I remember was these wind-up race cars called Ronco racers...Metal bodies with real rubber wheels....THEY HAULED ASS! Other than that...if it was daylight I was playing ball or shooting marbles..or building a serious treehouse...sigh....life was so much simpler then,eh?

I've come full circle Kev. I now play Chutes and Ladders with my daughters. Yes, it is still around.

Operation was awesome. Spent way too much childhood time working on that funny bone.
