LEXINGTON, Ky. - Summer Squall, the 1990 Preakness winner who sired 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Charismatic, was euthanized Tuesday due to the infirmities of old age, according to Lane's End Farm.

What a shame, easy horse to be a fan of, I remember those races. RIP, Squall.

Geez, they're dropping like flies. Making me nervous about my 26 year old mare. I guess I'll just enjoy her while I have her. Just watched Summer Squall's Preakness and have a question. Whatever happened to Mr. Frisky? I'd forgotten all about him until now. Also, is Unbridled still alive? I can't remember. I know he went on to sire a whole bunch of horribly unsound future racehorses.

Sad. :( I rooted for Charismatic originally because I was a fan of Summer Squall. What a shame.

The only Derby I have been to was 1990.............SS was my choice and I was glad to see him get the Preakness after the very popular Nafzger-Genter run by Unbridled. Sad to see him pass.............

RIP.

I believe that he was one of only two sires to a Kentucky Derby and Oaks winner. The other being Halo in the "modern" era.

seattle slew got 2 oaks winner and one derby winner.
