Riding while retired

For the 3rd year in a row both John Velazquez and Edgar Prado are putting up terrible numbers in turf routes at Saratoga.

They are both riding like pace and race shape don't matter ... and Velazquez consistantly seems to make an effort to lose as much ground as possible on the turns.

Velazquez is 46-1-5-5 with a $0.07 ROI in turf routes this meet & 20-for-210 with a $0.64 ROI the last 3. He's also 1-for-19 in turf sprints this year.

Prado is 46-3-5-3 with a $0.38 ROI in turf routes this meet & 19-for-189 with a $0.86 ROI over the last 3.

These two are simply living on their name and past accomplishments. They are riding both dumb and chicken. You don't win like that unless you're on much the best.

While not offically retired yet .. it's been fun watching film of the cowardly lion and the tin man put on a show all meet long.

Wait.

So when I was slamming JV like two years ago saying how he's basically mailed it in, why did I get the insistent excuses saying that it was because Pletcher went cold?

Prado has got to have 5 years on jv. The latter is losing on better mounts(imo).

I'll keep it short and sweet.

It was a bad move taking him ...

As I partially referred to yesterday, John Velazquez is "The Mike Smith of the Eastern Seaboard" he doesn't have those Pletcher bad trip horses he used to win on regularily when Pletcher horses were running like energizer bunnies. To me he is riding exactly the way he used to.
