my husband keeps saying look at where it happened...but i don't care where it happened. the simple act of carrying a gun in and of itself should not be a crime imo. the only person he ended up injurying was himself. there was no intent there, other than self-defense. no previous record i believe. it's b.s.

if the gun was registered he wouldnt have been charged I dont believe. If he hadnt been a dumbass and carried a loaded gun in his sweatpants.. he wouldnt be going to jail. He's lucky the bullet got his leg and not someone else.

With that said, the sentence is absolutely stupid. I can see convicting him of a misdemeanor.. he did have an unregistered gun that went off in a club and.. but shoot.. a big fine and some community service and probation would have been more than enough punishment. He already shot himself in the leg.

#1.. he should have had a bodyguard. He obviously isnt very good with guns. I completely understand a high profile athlete's need for protection.. it isnt exactly a great world out there.. especially when jealousy and money are involved #2.. he should not have gone to the hospital. A man with his connections should have been able to hide this better & get treatment without going somewhere you know they have to report you.

Anyone whoi shoots himself in the foot is an idiot. he deserves more than 2 years. What a fool. Just another thug with an ego making himself feel important by carrying heat.

if we sentenced people to jail just for being an idiot, there wouldn't be enough prison space to go around.

I disagree. Doubt he was trying to be a "thug" and feel "cool" about having a gun. Shawn Taylor? That Jaguars dude? and an Eagles player off the top of my head have been shot in very recent years. These guys need to protect themselves. Lots of jealousy out there.

He never took Gun 101 though and should have relied on a bodyguard. He could have been smarter thats for sure. But 2 years is insane.

Gander 08-20-2009 01:19 PM

These guys should all carry squirt guns. Anything more complicated and they are in trouble. If Plax was carrying a squirt gun the most damage that would have happened was maybe ruining a thousand dollar pair of Italian shoes.
Gangsta.

He brandished an unregistered pistol in public and discharged it. WHether or not he injured just himself, or others, is a TOTAL moot point. When you have that much bread, carrying a gun is about as dumb as driving drunk. You should pay someone else to do it, someone qualified. I hope his celly bends him over lubeless for being so dumb.

So if I were to go outside and fire a gun, I shouldnt be punished because it caused noone harm? i dont get it.

These overpaid football thugs have egos bigger than their biceps. They pack heat to be cowboys. And most of them arent smart enough to even know how to use the damn things, as this idiot proved. I dont get it. They all make multi millions a year, live in huge houses, most of them have wives/families...yet they feel the need to hang out at clubs? Havent they ever heard of renting a movie and eating a pint of ice cream?

As much as I think guns should should be outlawed...a very popular point I know...2 years is crazy for that.

Hard to believe he PLED to 2yr sentence........His lawyer should be disbarred, and he could win on appeal!

Minimum sentence 3 1/2 years if found guilty at trial. I'm just not sure how he could have possibly NOT have been found guilty. But I do agree 2 yrs for illegally carrying a handgun is absurd. But it's better than 3.5. He'll be out in 20 months with good behavior.

And Donte' Stallworth gets nothing for killing someone while smashed.....

how dramatic. brandished?! lol

dude had a gun in his pants that accidentally fired, had had a concealed carry permit in the past (and yes, i know, another state)...the only person he harmed was himself. sorry, i just think the whole deal is ridiculous. 23 month longer sentence than a guy who broke multiple laws and killed a guy-luckily not more than one guy!

as for going outside and firing a gun-that's a little vague, but i know if i walked outside right now and fired off a few rounds, no one would raise a brow.

he was facing 3.5-he's lucky they got it down to two, which i find absolutely ridiculous. hell, that broad in kentucky who shot and killed her husband and then fled with the kids didn't serve that much time.

he gets out in 20 months with good behavior.

hopefully roger goodells lets plaxicos nfl suspension run concurrent with his jail sentence...even then, he'll still miss more ball time than stallworth. makes zero sense.
