Should the Alabama be off the table?

I know the public wants and the logical choice's at least competition wise is race RA in the Travers, Personal En.and maybe just maybe The Woodward and of course I'm sure they are even thinking of shelfing her until Belmont Fall.

But should the Alabama totally be off the table? Think about it, it would be a $450,000 cool easy public workout, she would pad her ever growing impressive resume with one of the best most prestigious Grade I's for filly's in the Alabama (which is basically the second jewel for the girls) and the connections can really test her at a 1 1/4 without much fear. Correct me if I'm wrong but she hasn't raced at this distance yet.

Then she can rest up for a bit and either tackle the older Lady's in the Beldame or tackle the older males in the JCGC.

I know it's not "sexy" decision or what everyone want's but would it be such a bad idea? I mean it is the Alabama after all.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I'm with Hank Jr., and against cats in the house.

I think its Travers. If not the Woodward.
Maybe a break and a Belmont fall campaign ?
I highly doubt Alabama.

There is zero chance that she will run in the Alabama

I don't know I would give the Alabama some serious consideration. I know they won't but to be able to stretch her out to a 1 1/4 without any threat of losing and still being able to snag The Alabama title as well as easy money would be awfully tempting.

Why would they run her back in three weeks at 10 furlongs when there is far more to gain by going 10 furlongs a week later or 9 furlongs a week after that?

She is not running in the Alabama.. Move foward as Chuck stated "the Pill" is more likely

TouchOfGrey 08-04-2009 09:53 AM

As much as I want to see her run a mile and a quarter, I think she has nothing left to prove against other 3YO Fillies.

tector 08-04-2009 10:03 AM

It adds very little to her HOY resume, which is already impressive--what is the point?

I think the Woodward is most likely. No filly has ever won this race. The roster of past winners is practically a Who's Who of the horses enshrined across the street. They can still try to win the Travers with Kensei. If they manage that his stallion value goes up substantially--it would have no such corresponding real value for RA. It also gives them an extra week. Without a date with the BC they can and should be generous with their scheduling.

Thunder Gulch 08-04-2009 10:22 AM

Less money for one in the Alabama, and though she would be 1-20, the thought of losing to that field would do serious damage to the reputation they are building. There simply isn't any upside to winning. If she loses the Woodward, it would be disappointing, but even a super filly gets a little pass on that.
